This CD set is a wonderful overview of Yanni's work and I love the fact that it is from all types of his music. There is something here for everyone from classical music lovers to jazz buffs. It is perfect for those like myself who are just discovering this artist. I particularly wanted this collection because it included "Aria" which was not on the Live at the Acropolis CD. I had seen the DVD of that concert and I am rather disappointed to discover that the "Aria" track on this album was obviously not performed by the same women who performed the piece at the concert. While Mona Lisa has an interesting voice, this recording seems vey strained and tired compared to the pure and effortless perfomance at the Acropolis.
I have several of Yanni's cds, including Live at the Acropolis. I purchased this cd in order to have a nice collection of his best studio recordings on a two-cd set. I was dissapointed to find out that several of the songs on this cd were taken from the Live at the Acropolis concert. Don't get me wrong, they are great performances, but I was looking forward to a compilation of all studio material (hence the 4 stars instead of 5). To be honest the jumping back and forth from live to studio recordings disrupts the flow of listening to this cd in its entirety. But It's still Yanni, and it's still great music. A great place to start if want a sampling of some his best work to date.
Extrodinary work not only Yanni, but from all of the musicians. A nice blend of instuments and vocals.
Yes....how did this guy get a record contract....and how come he was the FIRST artist ever to perform at the Taj Mahal...and why was he the FIRST Western artist to perform at the Forbidden City in Beijing? and how come he is a regular, and best, contributor to PBS stations (ie, non-profit) for fund-raising....facts speak for themselves!
Nice collection of Yanni classics. I got a good deal of songs for the price, I highly recommend it to Yanni and not so Yanni fans.
