Review - Amazon.com
Though the album cover claims differently, there is nothing "essential" about this package. Created, as most samplers are, without input from the artist, Port of Mystery takes half of its selections from the tossed-off album Optimystique, a dated 1980 recording that Yanni's old record label, Private Music, rereleased in 1989. The older pieces and their antiquated instrumentation, notably "The Magus," sound almost comical when tracked next to newer pieces such as "Looking Glass" and "You Only Live Once." If you are seeking a truly worthy Yanni sampler, start your search with Reflections of Passion. --Terry Wood

- A Unique Experience

This CD should only be purchased if you already own at least three of the following Yanni CD's: Devotion, Reflections Of Passion, Live At The Acropolis, and Tribute. Otherwise, you're cheating yourself out of a true Yanni experience. That being said, most Yanni fans will eat this one up. True, most of the instrumentation is tinny and dated, but those who look beyond the surface will find some very unique and pleasing melodies. This compilation really represents a side of Yanni that few are able to see in his newer albums, and it's definitely worth a look. Also, why "You Only Live Once" isn't included on any of his "Greatest Hits" albums is a mystery to me. Make sure that you hear this song one way or another. If you have a little cash and are already familiar with Yanni then pick this one up.

- It's GREAT!!!

The music in this CD is wonderful! The accumulation of instruments to make these fast-paced songs are amazing! Almost all of the songs on here have a "jumpy" sound to them, yet some are slower and more relaxing. I had to tape the CD on a cassette so I could listen to it at night! I wouldn't even suggest NOT getting this CD, it was the first ever Yanni CD I ever listened too, and still my favorite!!

- It's MIDI!

If you love MIDI music, this CD is for you. If real instruments had been used, it might have been half decent. The fake drum in Track 4 is the worst.
