This CD contains Yanni's more reflective, romantic songs some of which are unparelled in their mastery. Songs like "After the Sunrise", "Nostalgia", and "Reflections of Passion" are simply unbelievably well composed and performed, and are definitive representatives of earlier Yanni sounds. Two new tracks were added especially for this album,"True nature", and "Flight of Fantasy", which features seamless flowing of melodies that takes you into the world of Fantasy. This is one of the best new age albums out there, period.
Some may say the music of Yanni is syrupy, saccharine, musically light and full of stylistic cliches, and they're probably right, but sometimes ... that's exactly what you need! I do, anyway. There is an undeniable energy to this music that captures the attention, moves, motivates and tugs at the heartstrings. I think what I like most about his style is that while it does have some depth, it doesn't brood and wallow in it. Many of Yanni's full-voiced keyboard compositions are cheerful, set in major keys, and while some of the musical motifs are a undeniably trite, the compositions do build and change, developing a rich, diverse texture. "Reflections of Passion" gathers together some of the best--great music to play during periods of emotional release and healing. Just listen and look upwards, and you'll find a spot of sunshine to appreciate on any cloudy day. "Reflections of Passion" is a compilation of previously released hits from Yanni's earlier albums, and a similar collection, released around the same time in the early 1990s is "In Celebration of Life".
This CD ebbs and flows so well. I feel happy and sad and excited at different times. I love that it is all instrumental. Nothing hides or covers the music. You can listen and really get into it or use it as background.
Of all the Yanni music I have, this one is my favorite. It is relaxing, refreshing, and calming when you need calming. I have lots of music. When I want to calm my nerves, I reach for this--always.
All of Yanni's music have a certain type of uniqueness. Each of his recordings tell a separate story that connects to the listener. His music is both uplifting and inspiring to me as a writer. This is one of Yanni's best compilations that I continue to play on a weekly basis. I truly enjoy this CD.
