Review - Product Description
Waylon's MCA era began with this mid-'80s gem, co-produced by fellow Texan Jimmy Bowen. You'll hear his Top 10 country hits Working Without a Net; What You'll Do When I'm Gone , and the Los Lobos-penned title tune plus Suddenly Single; That Dog Won't Hunt , and more!

- Waylon's Comeback Album of 1986

After years of being on RCA and hitting a dry spell in the mid 80s, Waylon departed that label for a new start on MCA. And for the first time that decade, Waylon made a classic album and chose excellent songs from a then unknown Steve Earle (Devil's Right Hand), Los Lobos (the title track) and Don Cook (Working Without A Net) to which Will The Wolf Survive and Working Without A Net both hit top ten. This album comes very close to rock at times, and even though Waylon has stated in his book that working with producer Jimmy Bowen was not much fun, Waylon's vocals has a little more bite to them. The sound is buried in dated digital 80s country sound (which was the norm back then), but the music on this album rocks to the point that even the 80s sound can't bring down the quality of the songs.

The album itself is very hard to find on CD, but MCA has repackaged all of Waylon's MCA albums on a nifty 2 CD set called the Complete MCA Recordings, which would be more cost effective to get than trying to find this CD by itself. While the rest of the MCA albums have their moments and their charm, Will The Wolf Survive is Waylon's lost classic that stands head and shoulders above the other albums.

PS: Universal has quietly reissued Will The Wolf Survive and can be found for 8 dollars.
