Review - Product Description
The 1967 New York Sessions are comprised of the (much compiled) recordings Van Morrison made for Bang! after his split from Them. Teaming with Brill Building vet producer Bert Berns, Morrison's wild-eyed lyricism is often a tight fit with Berns' straight-ahead commercial sound (see the silly but fun "Chick-a-Boom" for an example). Still, a number of great songs can be found here, including the all-time great "Brown Eyed Girl," "The Back Room," "He Ain't Give You None," and "Ro Ro Rosey." Early versions of tracks from Astral Weeks, "T.B. Sheets" and "Madame George," also appear. Despite Van's objections to being a pop artist, the conflict between the two styles makes for some very interesting and invigorating listening. These sessions aren't vital to the casual Morrison fan, but anyone whose love of the man goes beyond the hits needs to add these to their collection. The best place to go is Legacy's Bang Masters as it is a legitimate and well-mastered set. It also includes an alternate version of "Brown Eyed Girl" which is not included here. ~ Tim Sendra, All Music Guide

- Huh? What's This?

This title seems to have two different, or more, front covers. There are two discs. The second one is full of Jim Croce! What in the hell is this? The Croce stuff is good; but it's not Van Morrison! What in the hell is going on?

- Between THEM and "Astral Weeks".....

This is a very rare version, Triple-Album on VINYL (made in Italy by Get Back Records) of all the material recorded by VAN MORRISON for Bang Records in 1967.

After leaving the last version of the irish rocking R&B outfit THEM, VAN MORRISON came to America and recorded all this material in ONE YEAR! Several LPs came out of this material including, THE BEST OF VAN MORRISON (1967), BLOWIN' YOUR MIND (1967), T. B. SHEETS (1973 & 1974), THIS IS WHERE I CAME IN, and many other versions....

The material is really GREAT. Apart from having ALL THE MATERIAL ON THIS ONE COLLECTION, it contains rare sessions of jamming THAT WERE NEVER RELEASED ON THE VINYL ALBUMS!!!! TWO SIDES WORTH. So really there is enough material for 4 whole albums here!

The FOLD-OUT cover is also ONE FOR THE BOOKS. Truely ORIGINAL (I have yet to see ANOTHER COVER LIKE THIS ONE!), it FOLDS COMPLETELY OPEN TO REVEAL INSIDE OUT, INFORMATION ABOUT THE SESSIONS THEMSELVES, all the musicians who played, and even contains some rare photos of Van with Janet Planet (his soon to be wife) that most Van fans HAVE NEVER SEEN.

- Excellent album

Great to hear early Van in nice clean sound. Second album is short pieces providing a most interesting glimpse into Van Morrison building future songs.

I'm very pleased with this buy.
