Review - Product Description
Back to Mine is returns with Underworld following on from most recent compilers The Orb. The latest chapter in the exciting Underworld saga continues with an invitation to party round theirs and to take a peek into their miasma of musical influences.

Ever wondered what live techno pioneers Rick and Karl listen to at home? Try the bittersweet R&B pop of TLC for size. How about a few headmessin' rave classics like "Horsepower" from CJ Bolland's Ravesignals series, Remy and Sven's "Piano Power" and even Aphex Twin's ballistic "Didgeridoo". Throw in plenty of Afro hip beat vibes and you have an un-pigeon-hole-able mix that really sums up where they've been, where they're at, and where they're going!

- underworld is just too cool.

Being a huge fan of Underworld, and also of the Back to Mine series... i had been hoping that eventually the two would meet. When i saw the cd among the new releases at the record store, i didn't hesitate for one second, and i wasn't disappointed in the least.

The album is very eclectic, which i was expecting since underworld's music draws influence from many different genres. But the songs flow nicely, and overall the album follows a cool path. The cd starts out with a 12 minute epic hip hop tune with very cool lyrics comparing politics and hollywood. this builds to a hypnotic climax and releases into TLC's creep. oh hellll yeah... this brings me back to 8th grade- such a cool song. Next, they bridge hip-hop to techno with Dr. Octogon, which leads into a techno excursion- 'horsepower' 'piano power' and 'loop'. Next is, in my opinion, the only flaw of the album... a random reggae-ish song is throw in the mix, breakin up the flow of the album. But its okay.. cuz the best part is just coming up. LTJ Bukem's 'music' is drum n bass chill out at its best, and then they mix it into the underworld soft mix of Depeche Mode's 'Barrel of a gun'... sooo cool!! that flows nicely into Aphex's 'didgeridoo'... and then the part that gave me goosebumps... Dead Prez comes in as Aphex slowly loops over and over into the distance, forming part of the beat. Underworld's keen sense of rhythm is what sets them far above other techno artists, and this is a prime example of it. The rest of the album flows between hip-hop, soul, and obscure tracks that bring the album full circle. very nicely done. I highly recommend this album.. even if you not a hip-hop fan (i am not) you can still appreciate how underworld is able to connect the different songs together.

- What's this?

Strange, strange album. Yes, it's a "Back to Mine" album, but its still an odd collection of tracks. The disc is all over the board. Truly, it sounds like a collection your 40-yr old uncle would put together. Yes, the songs, by themselves, are all classics in their own right. But do they flow here? Not really. Do they create a "vibe" that has anything remotely to do with Underworld. No.

Buy this album if you want a decent mix tape of a wide range of musical styles - put together by Underworld. Don't buy it because you like Underworld music.

- A visit to the underworld

What a cool album. Quirky and delightful, though there's some tracks ripe for the skippin'. This is what the Back to Mine series is about - getting back to inspiration and influence. This album does not disappoint.

- Not my favorite from my favorite

I'm a big Underworld fan, and also a fan of the Back to Mine series, however this one just didn't do it for me. I don't think it's Underworlds best production work, and I hardly listen to it at all. That being said, sometimes when I sit on things for a while and listen to them again, I like them. I'm not packing it away, but for now it's disappointing.

- Great mixtape album by my favourite musicians

Not as godlike as Underworld's own albums, but still a fine listen. Personally I enjoy B Movie and the techno tracks on side one.
