NOWADAYS, ALBUMS GOT 2 or 3 really good tracks. But with TWISTA'S KAMIKAZE, you can just let it play from Track 1 to 16!
This is Adrenaline Rush's Follow up and Twista just keeps gettin better. Cant nobody come close to dat.
After appearing on various Rocafella collaborations such as "Is That Your Chic" w/Memphis Bleek, Jay Z & Missy Elliott, "Champions" w/Kanye West, Beanie Sigel, and Cam'ron from the "Paid In Full" soundtrack and "Poppin' Tags" with Jay Z, Killer Mike and Big Boi from Outkast, Twista has finally released another CD. Although "Kamikaze" was released on Atlantic Records, it seems as if Twista really wants to be a Rocafella soldier. The first single from "Kamikaze" is the Kanye West produced "Slow Jamz" which features Twista, Kanye West and Jamie Foxx. If you haven't heard this song by now then you must not have access to a radio or basic cable television. This song has been heard constantly and for good reason. The concept makes sense and this is a good way for people who may not have known who Twista was to get introduced to him. "Get Me" gets the CD off to a good start and if you still disbelieve in his skills, Twista comes back strong on one of my favorite tracks on his CD in "Kill Us All". Toxic, who produces 7 songs on "Kamikaze", definitely has his best work on this song and Twista takes over a 4 minute lyrical ride on the track. On "Higher", Twista employs Ludacris on the track and the two artists have a memorable collaboration on the track. If you have any kind of system in your car or truck then you will enjoy this track. Although Twista starts off hard, he definitely tones things down for the ladies and for the clubs, almost even too much. The best of these songs being another Kanye West produced track in "Overnight Celebrity". Kanye samples the classic Lenny Williams slow jam, "'Cause I Love You", to perfection. This should definitely be the next single. This is my favorite song on this CD by far and is worth the price of the CD alone. The Pied Piper and his lovely group JS shows up on "So Sexy". Once again this track is for the ladies and R Kelly proves why he is one of the best producers in the game today.
The only negative aspect of all the party jams is that there are entirely too many on this CD. "Pimp On" w/Eightball and Too Short, "Still Feels So Good", "Drinks", "Badunkadunk" and "Like a 24" w/TI and Liffy Stokes, as well as the aforementioned "Slow Jamz", "Overnight Celebrity" and "So Sexy" means that over 60% of Twista's songs are all about partying and clubbin'.
However, Twista definitely makes up for this with inspirational songs like "Hope" w/Cee Lo and "Sunshine" w/Anthony Hamilton. The skills are defintely there for Twista. He just has to take advantage of the gift he has and make a well rounded CD. Even still, "Kamikaze" is worth having in your collection. If you are a fan of any of Twista's previous collaborations then you will enjoy this CD.
James' Top 5
1) Slow Jamz w/Kanye West & Jamie Foxx
Twista's latest album is "Kamikaze" (2004). Hailing from Chicago, Twista is a Rap veteran who has finally managed to get the support of a label (Atlantic) that can market him properly to the mainstream. Guest appearances come from: 8 Ball,Too Short,Ludacris, Kayne West, Jamie Foxx, Jazze Pha, Freeway, Bennie Franks, Danny Boy, T.I., Liffy Strokes, Cee Lo, Anthony Hamilton, Memphis Bleek and Young Chris. Twista tears up the opening track "Get Me", showing his hunger for the game, love for his city while facing his haters. Next he takes things back to his Adrenaline Rush days with "Kill Us All". The lead single is the standout love track "Slow Jamz" feat. Kayne West and Jamie Foxx. It was good to see this cut explode on the radio, its a memorable collabration, what surprised me most about it was that Comedian/Actor Jamie Foxx can sing well. Next two tracks "Get That Doe" (Ain't It Man) and "Still Feels So Good" flow through nicely. Can't say I am really feeling "Drinks" or "Badunkadunk", both seem like filler. Thankfully "One Last Time" picks things up again, Twista's fastpaced flow and chorus shine on this cut. Freeway and Beenie Franks drop in for another good cut with "Show's Over". Ludacris distinct drawl mixed with Twista's trademark flow makes "Higher" an intresting collabration, whether you like this one or not you most likely will remember it. "Snoopin" feat. Danny Boy is a chilled out Rap/R & B collabration. Twista gets reflective on the substantial thought provoking "Hope" feat. Cee Lo, the messages within this track are very positive, this tracks special because Twista absolutely takes things to another level with real and relevant lyrics and Cee-Lo delivers a memorable chorus. Twista and R&B singer Anthony Hamilton drop a nice rendition of a well known track with the upbeat "Lovely Day" (which takes me back to the hit "Player Holiday"). Twista is on good terms with Dame Dash and Rocafella (who want to sign him) so it makes sense that he link up with Rocafellas Memphis Bleek, Young Chris and Freeway for "Art and Life". I have to say I am impressed by this one, it's good to see that Twista is getting the chance to get the commercial attention he deserves after years of being in the background. There are a few tracks I dont feel on this IE "Like a 24", however the majority are good giving this album continuity. The mix of diverse musical cuts make "Kamikaze" a refreshing album which I highly recommend for the collection.
This album is not as bad as they say it is. This is that last good offering from Twista. What's good about the album: Get Me is good start off track, Kill Us All, One Last Time and Snoopin(feat Danny Boy) are vintage Twista tracks. Badunkadunk and Higher feat Ludacris might make some noise in the club. So Sexy feat R Kelly was a dope joint for the ladies and Art & Life(Chi-Roc) feat Freeway, Young Chris and Memphis Bleek was a dope track to finish off the album with. What's bad about this album: Drinks, Sunshine(feat Anthony Hamilton) and Pimp On feat Too Short and 8-Ball are boring as hell. Like A 24 feat T.I. and Liffy Stokes is straight up dumb and what does make your a** like roll a 24 even mean? Slow Jamz feat Jamie Foxx and Kanye West was an overrated and weak single. Overnight Celebrity is just as bad as the second single. The song has a good beat and nothing else to it. Bonus tracks; Freek-a-leek remix feat Twista and Jermaine Dupri is tight. So Sexy Chapter II is okay but nothing special. Bottom Line: Kamikaze is the last solid offering by Twista before he went down the pipes. It has more moments in it than his last two albums even though a lot of the bad songs on here bring it down. Its still a good release that could have been a great release. Standout tracks: GET ME, KILL US ALL, ONE LAST TIME, HIGHER, ART AND LIFE, HOPE, STILL FEEL SO GOOD, BADUNKADUNK, SNOOPIN, SO SEXY, FREAKALEEK REMIX.
This album is off the hook! One of the best this year and one of my favorites i own. Slow Jamz is getting a little old, but still destined to be a classic. So Sexy with R Kelly should be a single, as should Overnight Celebrity with Kanye. These 3 songs alone make the cd one of the best out there. On top of this, the cd has no skits and no weak songs, making this 16 track album just a bangin' hit you can play all the way through.
