there are not too many live CD recordings of toots and the maytals. with "live in paris" as being one of the best ones this recording from london as almost as good. the sound quality is good, as well as the song selction and the interpretation of the songs. highly recommended!

For all you Toots fans who like the live album from 1980 this album is better to this listener. The sound is more modern and the background vocals with his daughter give it an edge. Don't be turned off by the fact that several songs are repeats from the first record. The versions here are just as good or better. But it's the other songs that make it worthwhile. Toots says this is "Roots, Rock, Reggae" during the show and is it ever. It's an album that sounds better with repeated listings and moreover at twilight with an adult beverage.

Are there flaws? Sure. You can tell the next song has been skipped a couple of times. I would like to hear the whole concert. Between the first song and 45 seconds of the second song you get some feedback a couple of times. But it doesn't ruin the songs. By the time "Spend the Weekend" is done and "Hard Road" kicks off all is forgiven. On side 2, after Toots toys with the crowd for 5 minutes before "Country Roads" the concert builds to the gospel stomp of "Give it Up" and closes with and the hyper hyptonic "Dog War". Roots, Rock, Reggae indeed! This is my first review and only because I dig it.. Highly recommended..
