When this CD was released, group member Otis Williams was quoted as saying that it was a belated follow-up to the Temptations' 1967 In a Mellow Mood set. Much like that LP, this 12-track album contains some time-honored standards like Rodgers and Hammerstein's "Some Enchanted Evening" and Cole Porter's "Night and Day." Of course, there are some major differences between For Lovers Only and that recording: only Williams remains from the original lineup and the arrangements are totally in sync with '90s technology. "At Last" (best known by Etta James's early-'60s version) is one of the standouts here, along with a surprisingly refreshing reading of "I've Grown Accustomed to Her Face" and a slowed-down, soul-infused version of Dinah Washington's classic "What a Difference a Day Makes." A 1961 hit by the Classics, "Life Is But a Dream," is given a wonderful doo-wop workout and includes a great Stevie Wonder harmonica solo; a medley of Ed Townsend's "For Your Love" and Sam Cooke's "You Send Me" works very well. Props to veteran producer Richard Perry for providing appropriate musical settings for this excellent project. --David Nathan

- Simply Wonderful!

I purchased this CD after watching "What Women Want." The Temptations' version of "Night and Day" is the best ever! But what a great purchase -- every single on here is absolutely great!

- A definite MUST have for any real music fan!

As a true lover of music, both as a musician and as a fan, I rate this albulm as not only one of the best Temptation recordings ever, but possibly one of the best recordings ever. Period! The Temptations are almost as famous for their many different line-ups as they are for their tight harmonies, and the line-up for this particular album is unique to this recording only. There is also an emotinal and fitting tribute to the amazing Melvin Franklin, who's last ever vocal performance is contained in the haunting "Life Is But a Dream".

BUY THIS CD! Thankfully, unlike the old LP's, it won't wear out, because you WILL play it over and over and over and over....

- WANT ROMANCE? BUY THIS CD!

This is by far one of the most romantic soul CD's I own. The ballad "Some Enchanted Evening" is a favorite in most over 30's jazz clubs, and hearing this song brings me to tears. There isn't a bad song on the CD, and if you love the old classic songs this is the cd for you. I have made several copies for my male friends who want to romance some special lady. My special male friend also loves the cd because of the romance value and he is an avid temptations fan. I highly recommend it, and considering someone stole my first copy out of my convertible I was just happy to find a new copy on Amazon!

- R&B take on Standards

Smooth listening to some classic romantic tunes. The Temps give a slight R&B twist to the songs so you'd never know that "Some Enchanted Evening" was from "South Pacific" or another tune from "My Fair Lady." Wonderful harmony and tranquility. Voices are excellent and give the music its due respect.

- YESTERDAY, TODAY AND BEYOND

Only the smooth silky voices of the Temptations be it the originals or the voices of today can take yesterday's love ballards and classics and make them popular.

The rich harmony of the Temps will make you remember the songs as if it was yesterday, their style bring them into today and your children will want to play them tomorrow. Every song is a master piece of love and hard work.

You can only wish that they will do another CD of such classics.
