When is the last time you have been Tempted? The legendary Temptations will tempt you with their new CD AWESOME, where you will hear close harmonies that only they know how to do and the words of the songs will speak to your heart. SWEPT AWAY has a beautiful sound transporting you with your lover to a special island while the song AWESOME has a message for us all. FOUR DAYS has a contemporary harmonic sound and we go back to the future with the Smokey Robinson song, A LOVE I CAN SEE now with a new spin to it. AWESOME is co-produced by OTIS WILLIAMS, their founder who has guided the Temptations for over 40 years as they sang famous songs such as My Girl, Popa Was A Rolling Stone and Just My Imagination. Classic Temptation fans will enjoy their new CD. It's not an oldie however. Some songs are written by the Tempts and their sound is fresh and exciting. All I can say is that this CD is truly AWESOME !!
How do you improve upon perfection? In my opinion you take five talented handsome men known as the present day TEMPTATIONS. Catch them coming off of a Grammy Award winning cd aptly called "Ear Resistable" just a couple of years after their "Phoenix Rising" cd, (which has sold over two million copies worldwide). Hook them up with some of the best writers, musicians, and producers around, and before you know it you've got a cd that can be called NOTHING short of *AWESOME*! What else could they have called it? Fantastic? Stupendous? Miraculous? See where I'm going with this? From the very first interlude (Awesome) to the last track proclaiming, "I Feel Good" this is one of the gold mines of 2001/2002 in music today. Initially I was overcome by "Hurt So Bad" which took me back to a funky soulful time, musically speaking. I've heard it compared to something Al Green may have done back in the day, which is cool. However, to me there's something of a Johnny Taylor nature to it. Maybe because of the bluesy vibe that's kicking in this track. It's a funky bluesy souful jam. My man BO Henderson does some serious justice to this song, as he leads. This is the song that grabs you when you walk into the party and soon as you hit the door you hear it, so you throw your hand up in the air and you holla "HEEEY!" as you break down into some "funky" moves. Oh yeah this is the "cut" for real! I could go on and on about songs like "Forget About It" or "Lady" or "Swept Away" but, until you experience *AWESOME* you won't understand. This is'nt just the name of the cd, this is the feeling that you get from listening to it. The songs and the group take you over and consumes your soul with this one. I've found myself drawn to the ballad "So Easy" written by Temptations' veteran first tenor, Ron Tyson and Oji Pierce. This song will have you wanting to fall in love for the very first time all over again. As most Temptations' ballads seem to do. You honestly believe it would be "So Easy" for you to fall in love with...whomever! Most of us fans have taken a poll and the results are in...WE NEED FOR THE TEMPTATIONS TO RECORD THEIR INTERLUDE, "Open Letter, My One Temptation" over and make it a full length song....hopefully on the next cd. Check this one out I gurantee you'll love it. I started to do a review of this cd a couple of months ago, but decided to wait because it had given me some extremely strong feelings that I needed to calm down. It's two months later now and I've listened to this cd everyday, and I've come to realize that the excitement I feel for *AWESOME* has yet to die down. If anything I'm loving it more and more with each time I hear it. Everytime it plays I discover something new and different about one of the tracks. If you can pull yourself away from the vocals long enough, try listening to only the music, it is truly fantastic. I want everyone to discover this wonderful cd, and see how truly good great music sounds, even in this new millenium. I gave 15 copies of this cd as Christmas gifts last month. If I did'nt give you one, consider this a gift. You would be doing yourself an injustice to NOT invest in *AWESOME* you'd miss the chance of a lifetime.
Yes, it was awesome, and they spared no useless words saying it. This is not the best Temptations ablum yet (I believe All Directions, Puzzle People, or Ear-resistible was), but it will send you. The lush, sultry track will have you waiting for it to loop.
If you are in search of the greatest soul ever, peep out these 5 voices. Barrington proves to have the huskiness of Ruffin, the sweetness of Street, the soul of Williams (Paul), the tendencies of Woodson, falsetto of Leonard, the power of Edwards, the timbre of Peoples, the sensuality of Kendricks. . .need I say more. Terry shows that his silky, trained pop voice emotes passion in the eyes in even the hardest of souls. Terry voice converts the masses.
This irresitible album will keep some in awe and will keep the others is ecstasy.
Do I need to say anymore. The title fits the CD. The old saying is temp for life, we are fans for life.
I don't think you could find a bigger, more honest fan than I am regarding the Tempts. Over the yeays I have loved their every move, album, song, etc, with the exception of AWESOME. I did not think it was awesome at all. Now "For Lovers Only" was truly awesome, but this one left me missing the powerful leads of Ali Ollie Woodson, Dennis Edwards, and David Ruffin -- all very capable of rendering distinctive readings. But nothing on this CD comes close. I recently bought Woodson's solo CD and feel he should have stayed with the Tempts. They really need him now and he needs them. .... These are NOT the Tempts that I have known and loved. Save your money and do not buy this CD.
