- Fine for the curious

The "Silver Siren Collection" of Tangerine Dream tracks dates from January 2007, although the music itself was all recorded between 1985 and 1999. Half of the 10 tracks on the disc are drawn from the 1999 release "

" (aka "

"), a disc that has always been none too easy to come by over the years. The remaining tracks are drawn from the "

" release of 2000, itself a compilation of earlier material. None of the material on this release is new, nor is any of it any different from earlier releases, so its value to you will depend entirely upon how much of it you already have. Given the 2009 re-release of "What a Blast!", this collection does not look like a particularly good investment for long-time fans of TD, although anyone wanting to get their hands on a copy of the studio version of 'Akesh Deep' (easily the best track here) without shelling out for the full "i-Box" set (the only other place it is available) may wish to consider a copy.

For those unfamiliar with TD of the period in question, this disc contains 56 minutes of solid synthesiser craftsmanship but nothing to set the world on fire. It's fine for the curious but is never likely to be an object of strong desire.

- Tangerine Dream with a Re-think

What I have always liked about Tangerine Dream is that their music through all of the bands incarnations constantly is simply that...Tangerine Dream. How they have remained so original over so many years and pieces of music is beyond me. That said, the Silver Siren Collection is just that: a collection. And though I never thought I'd say it this cd album is at times more mellow than what I'm used to but suddenly it becomes rather heavily percussive with the usual twists and turns of the music I've come to expect from Tangerine Dream. Altogether then, I'd have to say my favorite pieces are: "Akash Deep", "Storm Seeker", "Last Trumpet on 23rd Street" and "Dream Sculpture" which starts off rather well, dreamlike but quickly gathers itself together and cooks. I recommend the Silver Siren Collection.
