Análisis - Product Description
Suzanne Vega broke-through with her eponymous debut album in 1985 in both Europe and America. The album featured the hits Marlene On The Wall and Left Of Center. She hit even greater heights with her second album Solitude Standing, which contained the hits Luka and Tom’s Diner. In many ways, she opened the way for the rush of female singer-songwriters that followed in the late eighties and early nineties. She continues to have hit albums and to play to packed houses on both sides of the Atlantic.

This DVD captures Suzanne Vega making her second appearance at the Montreux Festival in 2004. Accompanied by a full band (her first appearance was as a duo) she plays many of her most popular tracks including 99.9ºF, Marlene On The Wall, When Heroes Go Down, Left Of Center, Solitude Standing, Blood Makes Noise, Luka and Tom’s Diner.

Tracklistng: 1) 99.9ºF 2) Marlene On The Wall 3) Caramel 4) When Heroes Go Down 5) Gypsy 6) (I’ll Never Be Your) Maggie May 7) Penitent 8) Solitaire 9) Left Of Center 10) The Queen And The Soldier 11) Behind Blue Eyes 12) Solitude Standing 13) Blood Makes Noise 14) In Liverpool 15) Luka 16) Tom’s Diner 17) Calypso 18) Have You Met Miss Jones

- This is a Must!

Suzanne Vega Live At Montreax 2004 is a must if you like Suzanne Vega. She is in good form, looks healthy, tries to include the audience in her performance and the song selection is well chosen. She makes a brave attempt to cover The Who's "Behind Blue Eyes." The only weakness seems to be her band (particularly the bassist) sometimes seem to over power her vocal. The best moments are are when Suzanne solos or plays with just one band member or when her guitar is the dominate insturment.

- A Must For Fans

I've always been enamored of Suzanne Vega's intelligent, anecdotal songwriting and feathery, waif-like delivery. The songs here are impeccably performed with a mostly restrained but expert and well-rehearsed backing trio of guitar, bass, and drums. On only one tune is there the industrial backing rhythm which was indicative of a few of her recordings from the '90s. Vega exudes a genial presence with the enthusiastic late-night Montreux audience.

What stands out is the fine high-definition camera work as well as the transparent post-editing which lends a most appropriate viewing ambience and rhythm to the performances. Close-ups are steady and crystal clear. The set is lengthy enough to make for a fine DVD document that should please all fans.

- great clarity, great show.

The sound is very good, the video quality is very good, and she plays a nice selection of songs. This video plays as a complete show from begining to end with no cuts/inserts/etc... you get to see it just as if you were there. Great for the family as background music on sunday afternoon cleaning house days!

- A Great Concert Video

This is a great concert video of Suzanne's 2004 performance at the Montreaux Jazz Festival. Great versions of some of her best songs. The concert takes place in a larger theater but Suzanne's performance in combination with the lighting, camera angles and closeups end up creating a very intimate ambiance that becomes more comfortable as the show progresses. High points for me include her performance of "Caramel," the story behind "Gypsy," her versions of "Behind Blue Eyes" and "Have You Met Miss Jones" a jazz song written in the forties she closed with. The DVD includes bonus tracks from her performance at the festival in 2000 opening for Lou Reed. I agree with other reviewers that the performance, lighting and sound are better on the bonus tracks than the main concert itself and as it's just three songs it does seem like a bit of a teaser.

This DVD also comes in a collector's version which includes a cd of the performance. This is the only difference. Unless you feel you need it, it's not really worth paying the extra money to get the cd because it does not include "Behind Blue Eyes" or "Have You Met Miss Jones" the two songs she covers during the show and really does a wonderful job with. The songs that do appear on the cd you can get better versions of from the albums they appear on.

All in all a great concert DVD. I've seen her in concert twice and while it doesn't represent her best performance, it's certainly worth owning. Great for fans, especially for the two songs listed above which I don't believe you can find elsewhere. Also great if you've never seen her in concert before, you can enjoy in the comfort of your own home.
