Review - Product Description
Sugarland is Jennifer Nettles, a powerhouse singer with some serious twang; Kristen Hall, a singer/songwriter specializing in searing heartache; and Kristian Bush, a local folk/rock hero, formerly one-half of Billy Pilgrim.
Review - Amazon.com
A surprise hit in 2004 and 2005, this Atlanta-based threesome arrived on the scene at precisely the right time--when country trios (Dixie Chicks, Rascal Flatts, and to a lesser extent, Trick Pony and SheDaisy) had proved themselves in the marketplace. Like those acts, Sugarland trade on solid and sometimes intricate harmonies and a killer lead vocalist. In this case, the full-tilt Jennifer Nettles plays Natalie Maines to Kristen Hall and Kristian Bush's Emily and Martie. And while it would be lovely to hear another member of the trio out front occasionally, Nettles, a deep-dish Southerner who knows no one-syllable words ("air" is "aye-er"), is a commanding presence. Stylistically, the group mixes it up, from the folk-rock of Hall and Bush's backgrounds to the driving pop that dominates much of contemporary country radio; thematically, the songs largely revolve around restlessness, the need to escape restrictions and find one's self, and the faith that things will work out. "Baby Girl," the hit about an itinerant musician writing home for money and emotional connectedness, is but one of several surefire winners here, which include "Something More," a mid-tempo quest for a more meaningful life, and "Tennessee," in which a radio request line rescues true love. The quieter songs ("Fly Away," "Hello") are no less well written and affecting, even as the barnburning "Down in Mississippi (Up to No Good)," about housewife ennui and riverboat gambling, falls embarrassingly flat. Does this triad have staying power? Well, just as their name implies, they're a little too sweet to equal the Chicks' gravitas, but there's no denying they've got energy to burn. --Alanna Nash

- Oh, so sweet

I happened to catch Sugarland's video for "Baby Girl" on TV and loved it so much, I immediately ordered the CD. I then went to the band's web site and was able to listen to the whole CD online. I love this CD so much that I wasn't able to wait the two days for my CD to arrive -- I had to go out the next day and buy it at a local record store. I gave the already-ordered copy as a gift. This is by far my favorite CD of 2004. Jennifer Nettles' voice is super, the songs are upbeat and uplifting. It's the kind of music you want to crank up and drive fast down a long, straight road with the windows down and the sun roof open. I was surprised to find out I know and respect all three members of the band from their previous musical endeavors, and it's true -- this combination is something completely different and really so much more than any of them ever did alone. The combination of Kristen, Kristian and Jennifer truly is almost magical. I hope Sugarland is around for a very, very long time, and that they get the recognition they deserve.

- Great CD

This is a great CD. For those reviewers who can't stand the twang, let me remind you that this is a COUNTRY cd and that Jennifer is from Georgia. Southern accents just make the music more real and less processed. Her voice is very strong and makes everything sound upbeat. There are way too many female artists singing "sad" songs, so Sugarland is a great new alternative to this. Something More, Tennessee, Down In MS, and Baby Girl are my favorites. I rarely have 4 favorites on one CD. Go out and get it if you are a true country fan. This is one of my top 5 albums along with Mud on the Tires, Long Black Train, Julie Roberts, and When the Sun Goes Down.

- GrownUpMusic.com Recommended! We can't stop rockin'!

If you like the Dixie Chicks - and even if you don't - you're going to go ape for Sugarland. There's nothing redneck about this bunch. Sugarland is smart, incredibly talented and - best of all - optimistic. No dogs, trailer park housewives or pickup trucks were harmed in the making of this CD. Instead, it celebrates the common struggles we all share: with lyrical beauty, solid melody and a beat you can dance to. The music is infectious from beginning to end, making this a perfect soundtrack for your next road trip.

- Great upbeat cd :-)

Usually, I don't listen to Country music, but I made the exception when I saw these guys on the Grammy's. They are fantastic and I not only love Jennifer Nettles voice, but the music is so catchy and fun and great.

Fly Away, Something More, Just Might (Make Me Believe) and Stand Back Up are my favourites, but then they are all good songs and I'm surprised about how much I love this since I'm really mainly into R&B and Hip Hop. These guys are talented and write such great songs. They also performed on Las Vegas and look like they are having fun on stage. They sound fresh and I have really taken to this group and this cd. I hope they keep releasing music like this. They might just convert me yet. I love it. Even if you aren't a Country fan, you too might surprise yourself. Give this a try.

- Sugarland ROCKS!!

Sugarland appeared on the Tonight Show on 3/30/05. I had fallen asleep in the chair but woke up just as Sugarland started playing their second released single ("Something More") from their one and only album. It took a few seconds to get use to Jennifer's Nettle's TWANG!! But after that, I was hooked on this song and this group. My mind kept playing that song over and over...I could hardly sleep. The next morning I got online, did some research (be sure to visit their website sugarlandmusic.com) and bought the CD from Amazon based on hearing that one song while half asleep, searching the web and reading reviews and listening to a few short clips of the other songs from Amazon's site. Now, this isn't the first CD I've bought because I liked a particular song and knew nothing of the rest of the album. Most I simply listen to that track, rip the track to MP3 to listen on the computer and throw the CD away. NOT THIS ONE!! The energy and fun this group showed on TV carries over to EVERY song. When the album arrived, I listened to "Something More" at least a dozen times and then took my obligatory stroll through the other songs. What a collection of talent this group has. I played the CD for hours and can truly say that their isn't a bad track on it. Most all would get 4-5 stars and the lowest would be a high 3. Then when you go back and listen to the "BAND", well, these musicians are "big time" musicians with "big time" sound. I played the CD for my wife (don't know why she hadn't heard it the hours I was playing it) and after a similar rising of the eyebrow at first hearing Jennifer's twang, she too was hooked. "Where's my copy" she asked!! My son came home from college and I played it for him. He liked Jennifer's twang!! I gave him my copy and bought two more for my wife and I. I'm a long time music lover (all genres) and have a huge collection of 78's, 45's, LP's, cartridges, cassettes, CD's and MP3's (somehow missed reel to reel). I have NEVER had a purchase so please me as this album did. The lyrics are simple and easy to follow, and the SOUND of the band is awesome. Get this CD NOW....this group is going to take off!!
