Let me get straight to the point. Soraya is gorgeous, she has a sensual voice, writes her own songs and plays the guitar, something uncommon in Latin American women. This cd will show people that women can rock. Although this cd is not mainstream, people who purchase this cd will not be disappointed. All of these songs are well written, but the best have to be "Avalancha," "De Repente," "Quedate," "Amore En Tus Ojos," "Calma Antes De La Tormenta" and "Razon Para Creer." All these songs are relaxing and give an euphoric sense. Track number 10 is included to honor her home country, Colombia, although it is depressing, this traditional song suits Soraya's style. Trust me, most of these songs will be unforgettable that I am usually reminded of the time this cd came out, way back in 1996. Why? Because I first heard it in the summer, purchased and heard all the tracks by winter, and whenever there is a chilly, windy, sunny afternoon I am immediately transported back to winter of 1996.
Soraya is so great. Even though I don't know too much spanish I still can get the jist of the songs through her voice and tone. She has one of the most beautiful voices I have ever heard. In fact she is really a lot like Sheryl Crow except she sounds much better (no slight against the very talented Sheryl). Buy this now. You won't regret it.
Soraya is a singer-songwriter from Columbia. Unlike her other releases, she sings in English on this album with the exception of the last song "Pueblito Viejo". Mostly the music is kept to minimum placing the emphasis on her beautiful voice. She sounds like a cross between Natalie Merchant and Carole King. She also plays acoustic guitar and mandolin. Rod Argent is the keyboardist and he produced the album as well.
...it's a pity that Soraya is often overlooked in today's music scene full of platinum blonde latina divas...here's a true musician..she's not just a beautiful face (although she's got that too)...she is refreshingly latina in her style...she plays instruments, writes her lyrics which reflect a deeper soul...the music is moody and beautiful at times...the opening track is catchy and draws you in...but the rest of the tracks are the real meat, with exquisite chords played beside her enchanting voice which invokes strokes of passion and confession...the last track : pueblito viejo is simply exquisite!!! It invokes the a small latino town with romantic lush orchestrations behind a song of aching simplicity....Soraya has poured out her heart here..some of the songs are catchy but it is with repeated listenings that the beauties of the other songs come out...
I am very pleased with my purchase of this CD! I received it promptly and in excellent condition. I would definitely purchase again from this seller.
