Review - AMG
This is most of the Sex Pistols' performance at Burton on Trent on September 24, 1976, recorded off the soundboard and therefore in generally good (but not excellent) sound. (Two of the 13 songs are missing.) This was shortly before the group signed its first record contract, and it's easy to hear what attracted attention to them. Already in the set are such future hits as "Anarchy in the U.K." and "Pretty Vacant," as well as songs that turned up on their first and only studio album, Never Mind the Bollocks Here's the Sex Pistols, and such covers as the New York Dolls' "Looking for a Kiss," the Who's "Substitute" and the Stooges' "No Fun." This is not a polished live album by any means, but it gives a good sense of what the Sex Pistols were like early in their career. (Note: this recording is identical to The Original Pistols Live [Receiver RRLC 101].) ~ William Ruhlmann, All Music Guide
