Samantha Mumba the greatest new talent bringing us her unforgettable debut song and album "Gotta Tell You". Basically this album is a re-release of the first version except it has a new album cover and pictures, remixes of a few songs that are most likely future singles, along with a new song written by Diane Warren called "I Don't Need You To Tell Me I'm Pretty". Although this album is deprived of one track that was on its prior release, the remix of "baby come one over" and "The Boy" make up for it along side the wonderful ballad "Don't Need You To Tell Me I'm Pretty". The Purpose of this "extra tracks" album is that Samantha didn't think she had this right the first time around so she released the album again with a few minor touch ups so that we can get full enjoyment. When I seen this release I just had to buy it since the cover is so much more attractive than the cover on the prior release. Now I own both versions of the album, if you can find the first release of this album I suggest you by that as well.
Track Listing:
1.) Gotta Tell You = This is the hit song that everyone should be aware of since it had great radio play and a great video to go along with it. This song is the least of the best of what Samantha has to offer, so if you think she's a one hit wonder than I'm sorry to tell you that she has other tracks on this album that live up to this one and are even better.
2.) Baby, Come Over (This Is Our Night) = Believe it or not, this track is actually a remix from its original version simply titled "Baby Come Over". This is her second hit single that you have been hearing all over the radio. If I wasn't telling you the truth, I wouldn't make the following statement, which is the fact that "Baby, Come Over" puts Christina Aguilera's "Come On Over Baby" to shame.
3.) The Boy (Remix) feat. WILL.I.AM of The Black Eyed Peas = For those of you who had the original release of the album had the original song so this track isn't really a remix to those of you who haven't heard the original. To tell you the truth, I didn't like the original of "The Boy" but with this hot new remix feat. the dude from Black Eyed Peas, it's just irresistible. I could me wrong but I believe this is going to be the third single, and its great because this song is a very R&B/Rap like song for all you peeps that are not that into bubble gum pop.
4.) Don't Need You To Tell Me I'm Pretty = Diane Warren had written another sure to be hit, I can tell you that right now. My favorite ballad on this album was "Never Meant To Be" until I heard this track on the re-release of the debut album. This is a really hot, positive ballad, that is catchy, it is nothing like that of Britney Spears yet it has the essence of what made us all fall in love with Britney Spears in the first place.
5.) Always Come Back To You Love = This is the hot international single that from what I know, made it all the way up to number 3 and possible higher in the near future. This song is great a sweat and has a bit of R&B flavor to it as well. There is also an import single of this song featuring remixes and the video, I recommend that you get it.
6.) Feelin' Is Right = This track has a mixture of a POP/R&B beat to it, and it is dance friendly. This is a great fun dance track and has great meaning to it.
7.) Body 2 Body = This was Samantha's very first international video and I'm afraid we are not gonna get it in the US. I think its great that Samantha Mumba is releasing different tracks all around the world this way she spreads different flavor. No! This is not a David Bowie cover, although Samantha did sample from David Bowie's "Ashes To Ashes".
8.) What's It Gonna Be = This sounds like a fun summer song, with a great tempo and fun beat along with catchy lyrics. Basically, this song is about Samantha wanting to know "what's it gonna be" because she wants to know the deal.
9.) Never Meant To Be = This is a beautiful ballad and it was my favorite until I heard "I Don't Need You To Tell Me I'm Pretty" but I think this one is more special because Samantha actually wrote it and the words are actually coming from her heart and mine. This ballad is really mature and I think it would be liked by a grown-up crowd as well as us teens.
10.) Isn't It Strange = This song is another fun song that you just can't resist because it has all those catchy lyrics. Samantha has very sweat vocals in this song and my favorite lyric is "It was right from the start Like a hit in the charts".
11.) Lately = Samantha Mumba did not write this song and it is a cover song from Divine. However, I like Samantha Mumba's version better and it should have been done this way in the first place.
I hope I was helpful and convinced you into getting hooked up with this CD and Samantha Mumba so she will live on to bring us more great music. Believe me, if you miss out on buying this CD, this isn't the last your gonna see of Samantha Mumba, she's gonna be in movies and even is a few commercials and I'm sure every magazine is infested with pictures of her and if they aren't than they should be.
Alright, if you have heard any of the songs by Samantha it is easy to see that this girl can sing very very well, but I often wonder why someone with un-imaginible talent such as Samantha is working with the producers that produce her music. She has got to ditch these guys cause they are murdering the music. There is no imagination in these songs, they have the same message as any other song and there is nothing here that we haven't all heard from Madonna and Britney. We need something new, but that is not what you are getting with this album. As I said before, she is a girl with a wonderful voice with awful producers, and these songs lyrics could use a bit of work as well. I mean, they aren't bad songs at all, it is just that we've heard every one of these messages and no new vocal talents are explored. You can expect to find this manufactured and uncreative sound on a Britney Spears album, but here I was hoping for more, but I haven't given up on Samantha cause I know she can do better than this. Heres to hoping for the next release. I reccomend you listen to track number four "Don't need you to tell me I'm pretty" if you get a chance, it is a wonderful song. For the rest of them, *YAWN*
Samantha Mumba made an undeniable splash in the year 2000 with her powerful debut single "Gotta Tell You". That song was the pop record of choice for that year in my opinion, the perfect vocal, the perfect lyric, and so very catchy. Soon came the album of the same name, the very same year, a strong pop album it managed another single in the UK in the David Bowie sampling "Body II Body", but didn't seem accessable for another single here, until she revamped the track "Baby Come On Over" into the stomping "Baby, Come Over (This Is Our Night)", and the album was reissued. The single was a pop radio success, and though it didn't match the sheer strength of the first single, it's still an excellent dance pop recording. Then she faltered however, releasing one of the album's weaker new offerings as a single, the dismal self empowering "Don't Need You To (Tell Me I'm Pretty)", which flopped here. Meanwhile, back in the UK, her singles have all been smashes, as she released the fantastic "Always Come Back To Your Love", the revamped "Baby Come On Over", and the classy Divine cover "Lately", all to top 10 single success. That's five singles she's been able to get from one great album, with tracks just as good as the singles, including the bouncy "Feelin' Is Right", the hip-hop flavored "The Boy (Remix)", and the fun "Isn't It Strange". Every cut here is great, and creates an incredibly good pop album. She's definitely one of my favorite pop singers of recent years, and I wish great success with a sophmore release.
The first time I knew about Samantha was her music video "Gotta Tell You" and I had no idea that she was Ireland at the time. I haven't heard about her since three years ago. I remember seeing her in a music video as some firefighter. Wasn't she supposed to release a cd that same year? Well, 4 years later I finally get to listen to her first cd. Here's my review:
1. Gotta Tell You- the single that started it all. 5/5
2. Baby Come Over- I remember every time I would hear about this song...the title would remind of Christina's Come On Over Baby 4/5
3. The Boy 3/5
4. Don't Need You To Tell Me I'm Pretty- umm...it's okay 3/5
5. Always Come Back To You- Great! 5/5
6. Feelin Is Right-5/5
7. Body II Body- I love this song! 5/5
8. What's It Gonna Be- Okay...4/5
9. Never Meant To Be- The best so far, a beautiful ballad...5/5
10. Isn't It Strange- Really cute 5/5
11. Lately- This song sound so familiar....who sings this song again??? 5/5
Overall, I give this album 9.5/10
I bought this album after listening to 5 songs, 4 of them which are singles. At first I thought that it would be a ver sy solid pop/r&b album but I was disappointed but it's not that bad, the ony bad thing is that I have to reach for the skip button for about three times.
1.Gotta tell you: First single, I liked the song a lot. I thought it was written/produced by Max Martin but it's actually by Scandinavian duo Birgisson and Bage (Jessica Simpson and others..) and co-written by Sam herself although I doubt that.
2.Baby come on over: This is a remix although I haven't heard the original version this is quite good one of the songs I bought the album for, perfect pop and catchy lyrics, it was writen like by 8 people!
3.The boy: Another remix, a stand out track, a mixture of r&b with hip hop but the chorus is pure pop. Features a special guest, Will I am from Black eyed peas.
4.Don't need you...Her actual single but I feel like if it's a filler in the album, a sappy ballad with lyrics that will only attract female fans.
5.Always come back to your love: Wow! I heard this in january, it's obviously the most commercial song on the album but a powerful one too! This was huge all over Europe, it shoulda been released in the US too. Watch out for Stargate, the most brilliant producers in Europe at the moment.
6.Feelin is right:Dancefloor filler. Pop/r&b.
7.Body 2 body:My favorite track! R&b all the way. Even if it gets over your nerves after repeating the chorus like 50 times he, it's an instant winner and it was a single too! (At least in Europe)
8.What's it gonne be:I don''t remember anything about this one, and I haven't payed attention to it so I'll save my commentts on this one.
9.Never meant to be:My second favorite cause it's quite original, Stargate are actully very good. Hope they keep doing great music.
10.Isnt it strange: Catchy but an obvious filler..
11.Lately: This is gonna be the final single form the album, it's a cover BTW. A perfect christmas track for all!
I rate it 3.5 out of 5 cause Sam has huge potential but I expected something else, like no fillers! She could get better producers for her next album.
