Review
The Raveonettes' "That Great Love Sound" is a stunning blast of post-Mary Chain pop that goes down just like honey. It really shouldn't work at all since it is so derivative and simple, but it does gloriously. The energy and power propel it into pop heaven; the sharp hooks make sure it stays there. It is one of the instant classic songs of 2003. This four-song EP is built around it. The other three songs on the EP are good enough to have been on the band's debut album, Chain Gang of Love. "Bubblegum" is a short '50s-inspired tune with some fine twangy guitar; "Get Lost" is a heartbroken midtempo cut with more excellent guitar work; "C'mon Everybody" is a noisy, atmospheric reworking of Eddie Cochran's rockabilly hit that is a lot of fun. The disc is topped off with the spooky video for "That Great Love Sound." ~ Tim Sendra, All Music Guide
