This video provides a good overview of Orbison's career, with a focus on the end of his career when a number of current-day pop stars played and recorded with him. His almost unearthly ability to use "the voice" -- to get it right on the first take -- and to write songs that broke every formal model or mode is clear, both in the clips of his performances and in testimony from other musicians. If you have ever enjoyed Roy Orbison, or would like to be turned on to a personality you had no idea was behind his music, you'll enjoy this excellent documentary.

This is a must-buy for any fan of Roy Orbison. I bought the Asian version in Taiwan, but the content is the same. Each of the songs sung by Roy are treasures and the DVD has several of his best selling, most famous tunes. In addition, included are less popular, but equally marvelous songs (such as Walk On - in a performance that brings goose bumps to my arms each time I play it). Enjoying Roy perform would be enough reason to buy the DVD, but what makes this DVD extra special is the insight that many talented performers give between songs into how revolutionary was Roy in his song writing technique and also in how he recorded songs. I knew Roy was big, but I had no idea that he had influenced so many big names in the music industry. Listening to the Bee Gees, Bono, KD Lang and many others explain in what ways Roy influenced them is a truly insightful and interesting interlude to each song. I cannot recommend this DVD more highly.
