- "There's going to be violence"

"Tripping" is the initial single from Robbie William's latest CD, "Intensive Care" (available in the U.S. only as an import). I have to admit that I really disliked this song when I heard it the first time. Robbie sings part of the song in a somewhat grating falsetto that overwhelms the song. However, repeated listens reveal a rather good song that is much more varied than it sounds at first. The instrumentation is lush and also very danceable - somewhat reminiscent of 70s disco but rather modern sounding as well. I'm not sure exactly what Robbie is singing about, but the lyrics seem to depict being downtrodden - I've taken as much as I'm willing to take/ Why do you say we should suffer in silence?

The casual fan will probably want to buy the full "Intensive Care" CD instead of this single, especially as the beautiful b-side "Make Me Pure" is included on "Intensive Care" as well. However, it's a nice teaser for the full CD. Robbie consistently produces wonderfully adventuresome pop music, and "Tripping" is a prime example.

- Feel the beat

Real catchy chorus. Bob really gets his voice up fairly high. A solid single.
