Long before being credited with inventing the so-called "Power Ballad" REO was rocking with songs like "Riding the Storm Out" and "Keep Pushing". This collection captures the formative years of the band, and thus gives the listener a variety of sounds and styles. If you want can't-sit-still Rock and Roll this album is just what the doctor ordered.
Being from Southern Indiana I listened and saw probably the best party band ever, REO Speedwagon. Myself and all my high school friends in the 70's will never forget the great times we had going to numerous REO concerts in Evansville, Indiana at the Old Coliseum and Roberts Stadium. After listening to these samples on this site I had to get in my closet and bring out my album of the same and rocked well into the night. What memories I have of Kevin singing and Gary playing guitar.
If you don't have this album you don't have a complete collecion of the best bands of the 70's.
REO Speedwagon was one of the greatest rock 'n roll bands of the 70's and 80's, then they ruined things by going bubble gum. However, this album is a must buy for any rock 'n roll fan because it contains the very best of the pre-bubble gum years.
If you want the biggest hits, get "High Infidelity". But if you want the best REO/S material, get this or the live CD "You Get What you Play For".
I used to hear REO at Teen Center dances, and they weren't just learning their licks either. They had it down. Songs like "Like You Do" and "Golden Country!" I didn't consider them regional songs. Listen to them! Give this collection a listen.
