- Viva los Pixies

Is this single worth it? Well, that depends. Bailey's Walk could be their creepiest most bizarre song....then again, maybe not. It is up there though. I love it though. Black Francis sings it totally off key on purpose. Into the White is a nice gem from Kim Deal (if your a fan of the Breeders and Gigantic, you'll love it) The Wave of Mutilation U.K. mix is a slow pretty version of the song. It is the only version Mr. Frank Black is willing to play live. All in all, hardcore Pixies fans ought to own this one.

- Rabid Completists And Old-Schoolers Will Love It

Sure, you're going to be exposed to the quiet/aggressive dynamic that informs their music on this CD single through "Here Comes Your Man" and Kim Deal's jangly/propulsive, driven-to-sustained explosiveness "Into The White", but the standout track here is their alternate surf-reverbed electric/gently-strummed acoustic interpretation of their own "Wave Of Mutilation" (recorded in England, it's known as the UK Surf version for that reason). And while the original (from "Doolittle") was ferociously presented and aggressively paced, the minimal percussion, heavy slow-tempo bassline, and Francis's carefully measured, whispery vocals provide a wholesale revision of the mood, intent, and interpretation of the song; I wish it had been included on "Doolittle" rather than its heavily distorted predecessor. The inclusion of "Bailey's Walk" keeps me from assigning this the highest rating; it's probably the only throwaway track the band ever recorded. I've had this copy for over 20 years and still play it with modest frequency. Recommended.

- A good single ... but

A good single, but now that the Pixies "B-Sides" has been released, skip this, and get the full length "B-Sides". It has this entire single on it, plus all the other Pixies singles throughout the years.
