Review - Product Description
2008 three CD set featuring two discs of Peter Green's award-winning recordings of bluesman Robert Johnson classics plus a third disc containing Johnson's own recordings of the songs that made him a legend. The 29 songs that Robert Johnson recorded in various Texas hotel rooms in 1936 and 1937 are amongst the most significant and influential works in the history of Blues music. It was thus very appropriate that it was to these landmark songs that Peter Green turned when recording the two albums which have done so much to re-launch his career, 1998's The Robert Johnson Songbook and 2000's Hot Foot Powder.

- Great Bargain on a Limited Edition!

This is a nicely packaged 3 CD set that essentially contains all of the songs contained on both "Hot Foot Powder" and "The Robert Johnson Song Book" with the addition of two songs, "Terraplane Blues" and "Kind Hearted Woman Blues", that were left off of the "Robert Johnson Song Book" CD. The addition of those songs completes Green's rendition of all 29 Robert Johnson songs. As an added bonus, you receive a third disc which features Robert Johnson performing all 29 original tunes.

If you were to buy the two Green CD's mentioned above, the price for those two disc's alone would equal the price of this 3 CD set. Adding to the bargain is the fact that each set comes individually numbered and is limited to 10,000 copies.

Musically, Peter Green and long time friend Nigel Watson have assembled their Splinter Group to perform this tribute to Robert Johnson.

Both of the CD's are probably the closest and best rendition of Robert Johnson in it's pure form that you are likely to hear. No fancey fret work or screeming vocals, just down home style delta blues. It's hard to imagine how one could go wrong with this purchase....

- Great CD Set

This is a fantastic collection done by a master of the blues, re-enacting a true Bluesman, Robert Johnson. Johnson's complete original recordings are included as well.

Great stuff.

- Peter Green, The Unsung Hero

The 3-CD set ME & THE DEVIL contains THE ROBERT JOHNSON SONGBOOK (1998) and HOT FOOT POWDER (2000), both by Peter Green & The Splinter Group, and a disc of some of Robert Johnson's historic recordings from 1936-'37. Me the Devil album

As the liner notes read," The idea that Britain's best and most original blues artist should pay tribute to the world's most original and important blues musician seems pretty logical to me. The fact that both of them weren't strictly blues musicians, in the sense that they both played pop songs as well as blues, adds extra weight to this already mouth-watering prospect".

"Like Robert Johnson, Peter Green also developed a taste for the harmonica, one of the many features evident on this album".

The Blues of Robert Johnson as told by the Peter Green Splinter Group stay pretty close to the originals. Peter Green with good friend Nigel Watson, a dynamic duo and the driving force behind the group have done themselves and Robert Johnson proud.

- Me & the Devil

Wonderful! Deserves to become a classic. Three CDs of excellent recordings of one of the best blues composer alive playing a fine interpretation of classical delta Robert Johnson's compositions. Peter Green rocks!
