What you have here is a two disc "live" set featuring the New York Dolls on disc one & the late great Johnny Thunders on disc two. Overall this is a pretty decent package. However, it has become quite pricey; and more complete & better sounding recordings can be found at a much more reasonable cost. Read on....
Disc one is the Dolls audition/demo recordings which have floated around under various titles and various labels for years. The hands down, best title available of these recordings is the cd, "Hard Night's Day" which includes all 20 tracks from these sessions. It can be found here on zShops or eBay for around 10 dollars give or take. A much, much better bang for your buck than the scant 14 tracks presented here. A second choice is the album "Seven Day Weekend" which contains only 19 tracks (same sessions although "Hard Night's Day" sounds a bit better).
Disc two contains another well circulated recording, the 1984 show recorded at the Lyceum Ballroom in England. A reunion of sorts with guitarist Walter Lure & drummer Jerry Nolan of the Heartbreakers. While not the greatest performance overall, the sound on this show is very, very good; and Thunder's is at least coherent throughout the set. Lure's guitar is a bit buried in the mix, but other than that this is a pretty decent show. But again, it is also available elsewhere and for a much better price. I strongly suggest checking out Castle's 3 disc remastered box set, "You Can't Put Your Arms Around a Memory". The box set contains 4 albums including the above Lyceum show. It also contains "LAMF Revisted", "DTK, Live At The Speakeasy" (a killer set & much better than the Lyceum show) & the "Live and Wasted--Unplugged" acoustic recordings. The box set can be tracked down for about 20 bucks.
So if you've made it this far, please take my advice. Get "Hard Night's Day" and the "You Can't Put" box set and take a big pass on "Street Trash". You'll have more Dolls, more Johnny and more music period.
Like most(if not all)Recall 2-CD releases,'Street Trash' gives the customer their money's worth, look at the good used price on this at $10.99.Disc one is 14 tracks from the Dolls, like "Jetboy","It's Too Late","Trash","Vietnamese Baby","Babylon" and the romping "Looking For A Kiss".Disc two has 13 cuts of Dolls bassist Johnny Thunders material, like "Personality Crisis","One Track Mind","Born To Loose" and many other good ones.Maybe one aimed toward the completist, but I honestly think a new fan could get something from this title as well.Top of the line vintage all American punk.Recommended.
So I got this set a long time ago and out of all the stuff i listen to, iggy and the stooges, stones etc.. THIS DOESN'T GET BORING!!!
The dolls cd is definately live, haha it's rough but very cool, some of the best dolls recordings in my opinion. There's lots of attitude on this one with songs from the first two dolls cds, the debut and in too much too soon. The recordings of Jet Boy, Looking For A Kiss and Bad Girl is at its best on this cd!!!
Now for Johnny. This is a pretty good live cd,starts off with a cool faster version of pipeline and they keep up the pace with the next song personality crisis, you may notice that they skip some of the lyrics at the end but i like this version because it's interesting to hear Johnny sing a song David usually sang.
Next is one track mind, not bad not bad, studios better but heyy it's Thunders, he was probly a little strung out doing this show.Up next is too much junkie business and they play it pretty good along with the next track do you love me!! classic song with some Thunders sass, heck yea. About halfway through this album you might get the feeling that they're getting tired,Johnny starts bustin some jokes andd whatnot but here and there they pick it up,especially on born to lose.
OVERALL YOU GOTTA BUY THIS IF YOU LOVE THESE GUYS.
VERY WORTH IT.
