This a very good concert. The only thing I don't like about it is that the guitar needs to louder. Other than that, this is one of my favorite CDs. It's cool to hear the original studio versions of these songs and then listen to the live versions. Some the songs if not all, are played differently than the studio versions. Which is an awesome thing to do live. Plus there are two great songs (Nothing but the blood and I know) on here that are not on any Michael W. Smith CD.
This was the first contemporary Christian album that I bought--about nine years ago--and it remains one of my all-time favorites. I especially enjoy listening to it in my car on long road trips. It's a must-have for any Smitty fan.
If you like Michael W. Smith's older music (which I most certainly do) this album is ideal. He sings You Really Need A Saviour, Could He Be The Messiah, Friends and Rockettown which are classic. They are excellent which shows that he is one of the best songwriters, even in 1986.
I like the music but Michael stretches the songs out a lot with no words. Also, he repeats words and sayings over and over like in Nothin' But the Blood.
I'd have to disagree with a previous commenter. This CD is well made with a great sound quality for a live album. I am a pro recording engineer, so I have a little experience with such things. The lead vocals may be a little soft at a couple of points, but I still understood every word on the album. It's a live rock album. The quality of this recording is excellent for its time and definitely has a live feel. A great compliment to a great album.
~Side note: The studio album, 'The Big Picture' was well produced by big names and players in the field; producers who were also responsible for creating the sound of our favourite 80's acts such as New Order's 'Blue Monday', Herbie Hancock, Thompson Twins, Ultravox, Phil Collins, Howard Jones, Genesis, OMD, Heaven 17, Peter Gabriel, Pseudo Echo, Modern English, Madonna and many more...even Paul McCartney. This album is often overlooked in CCM, but is regarded as one of the best in CCM for its unique and high quality production.
