Review - Product Description
Smith Music Group records Merle Haggard once again on the Live at Billy Bob's Texas stage. With approximately 40 #1 country hits, various Grammy, CMA & ACM awards, & a Country Music Hall of Famer, there is no one more deserving of a second release. On Merle Haggard Live at Billy Bob's Texas / Ol' Country Singer, the legendary hits continue. It includes his earlier hits like "Mama Tried," "Workin' Man Blues," "The Fightin# Side of Me," "A Place to Fall Apart," "Rainbow Stew" & "Natural High" with guest vocals from Janie Fricke. Not only does this collection have the hits it has a new hit track "Ol Country Singer" being released to Country radio in July 2004. Merle has been true to his musical roots as he pushed the boundaries of his hardcore country style. His influences include Bob Wills, Lefty Frizzell & Hank Williams & he draws from all forms of traditional American music - country, jazz, blues, folk & western swing - making it all his own & unique style. Merle's personal life has an unparalleled path as well, giving him many references to pull from in his songwriting & making him one of the most important country songwriter/artists ever. His songs have been covered by acts ranging from the Grateful Dead to Elvis Costello & he remains an iconic presence whose influence is eminent in country music still to this day. Merle Haggard Live at Billy Bob's Texas is an amazing follow-up release from this famed artist & his award winning band, The Strangers. Performing more of his biggest hits, at the biggest honky-tonk & making it one of Smith Music Group's biggest releases.

- Long live this country music icon

There really isn't much to write about a Haggard live cd as most of us know we are getting pure, unwatered down and undiluted country music. From a country music icon and living legend.

As with any live cd or studio for that matter Merle is backed by his road band of all these years "The Strangers" For a man who is nearly 70 years old, While his age is showing on his face is voice is still as crisp and smooth as blended whiskey. Though Okie From Muskogee isn't here, he makes up for it with all his other hits. He pays tribute to "All the Johnny Cash Fans" with a steller cover of "Folsom Prison Blues" He also hasn't forgetten his other musically hero's Jimmie Rodgers and Bob Wills. He features Freddy Powers long time member of "The Strangers" on Ol' Country Singer in both the live and studio ver. Despite the fact I have 3 other live Hag cds. This is a great addtion.
