- Great 1968 Live Set

This is a great compilation of 12 of Satchmo's popular songs. These tracks are live, recorded in 1968, and show that Armstrong was still on top of his game even this late in his career. His horn playing is still top notch and he is backed up by a great ensemble made up of Eddie Shu (clarinet), Tyree Glenn (trombone), Billy Kyle (piano), Buddy Catlett (bass), Danny Barcelona (drums). Buddy Catlett has a bass solo on "Cocktail for Two." In addition to Armstrong's vocals on the majority of the tracks, vocalist Jewel Brown sings on "Lover Come Back to Me," "Can't Help Lovin' Dat Man," "I Left My Heart in San Francisco," and "Bill Bailey." She brings a fresh sound to these standards with her more modern jazz vocal stylings.

So, if you are looking for a good taste of what Pops sounded like during the last few years of his life, this album is a testament to how great he sounded right up to his last day! (See if you can find a real copy of this CD and not a CD-R burned copy...there are some copies out there for bargain prices)

- LOUIS ARMSTRONG SONGS

This is a very good CD, I want the song on this, "When The Saints go Marching In," played at my memorial service when I die.
