Review - Product Description
Among British female vocalists, Lisa Stansfield has stood supreme for almost 15 years. You might call her the UK's leading soul diva. Certainly, she's as soulful as they come with a breathtaking voice & a remarkable range. Yet 'diva' doesn't seem quite right. The primadonna connotations of the word don't really fit the down-to-earth honesty & lack of pretension that characterize the girl from Rochdale, Lancashire who has gone on to sell 13 million albums world-wide. Her songs have become part of the soundtrack of our lives & have won her countless awards, including 3 BRITs, 2 Ivor Novellos & a Grammy nomination. But it's perhaps only when you listen to them collected together, 17 in fact, on her first Greatest Hits collection entitled 'Biography' that you realize just how deeply her music has penetrated our consciousness. This limited edition version includes a bonus disc of 6 of the most popular dance remixes of her songs, 'Change' (Knuckles Mix), 'Never, Never Gonna Give You Up' (Knuckles Mix), 'People Hold On' (Dirty Rotten Scoundrels Mix), 'The Line' (Black Science Orchestra Mix), '8-3-1' (David Morales Club Mix Long Intro) & 'Never Gonna Fall' (Junior Vasquez Mix). BMG. 2003.

- Good to have for Stansfield fans

Lisa Stansfield has a great voice and certainly has had her share of one-off hits. Her career seems to have dulled here in the US, but this disc is a great reminder of what she did really well and what we missed when the US market stopped pushing her so publicly. This includes everything from her early collaberation with Coldcut to her more recent singles and includes a great remix disc of some of her better club-type anthems. Worth a purchase.

- best voice around

Kevin you MUST get "So Natural." It is the best Lisa album around, and well worth the import price. When you hear "Marvellous and Mine" you will absolutely melt.

- ABSOLUTE MUST HAVE !!!!

Im actually writing this review without even having the disc(s) in my possesion. Lisa is an absolute talent. I don't even listen to Swing music at all, but Lisa has turned me on to it with the "Swing" sdtrk. Phenomenal !! I have been following Lisa since "Affection", "Real Love", "Lisa Stansfield", "Remixes EP", "Face Up" and of course THE ANTHEM w/Coldcut "People Hold On". Im still tryng to get the "So Natural" disc, that was not originally released here in the U.S., but experiencing all of Lisa and her craft it has to be of exceptional standard.

And now...."Biography". I look forward to the release of this disc and much, much more from Lisa in the future.

Thank You Lisa, and to the rest of Lisa's fans....ENJOY !!

- gosh what a voice....

I have to say I was pleasantly surprised at this CD for it's number of great songs and how it opened up my eyes (and ears) to one great female singer. I had mainly bought it for the two bigger hits heard on radio but it's one of those CD's that as soon as you put it on and it starts playing, you cannot turn it off. For many singers, the studio does wonders with covering up little quirks each voice has. There are few female artists whose voice can simply stand out above all that is going on around them, and Lisa Stansfield has one of those voices. This is a CD that showcases the older songs, the new technology brings out the instruments and vocal placement. "All Woman" is the best track I think and it's one of those older songs. I would like to see this CD remastered by the Japanese in K2 HD process--it simpley would take it to a higher level. If you like Lisa Stansfield, and wonder if the price for this CD is justified I can surely say yes--buy it! You won't be disappointed. I hope Lisa keeps on recording and doesn't let that voice slow down, we would surely miss her.

- yet again, a remix disc of EDITS

Anyone who had all of Lisa's promo 12" singles of "the #1 Remixes" tracks knows that the CD actually edited about 2 minutes off of the mixes. Well, I was hoping some of that would be corrected here, but yet again, two repeat tracks get the same edits: the Junior Vasquez mix of "Never Gonna Fall" loses about 2 minutes, and we once again get the edit of "People Hold On," which also loses 2 minutes. Don't have the other singles, so can't tell you if they've been edited, but here are the track times:

1. Change (Frankie Knuckles mix) (6:26)

2. never never gonna give you up (frankie knuckles mix) (8:40)

3. people hold on (dirty rotten scoundrels mix) (6:08)

4. the line (black science orchestra mix) (5:57)

5. 8-3-1 (david morales mix) (8:23)

6. never gonna fall (junior vasquez mix) (8:34)

With about 35 minutes of space left on this disc, they could have treated fans right and given us the full club mixes, and maybe added another 2 club mixes. It's definitely time SOMEONE releases a complete "Club Mixes" collection of all Lisa's singles.
