I bought this CD when it was released in 1996 for 7 bucks on sale. And it was the best 7 bucks I ever spent! Punk prices for their merchandise is important to LTJ. They are not a "political" band, but ya gotta have fun sometimes...I listened to this CD for a year and a half straight, almost every day, and never got tired of it. My toes never stopped tapping and I always sing along with every single song. Their live shows are incredible -great energy, everyone jumping up and down and shouting the lyrics with Chris and Roger. If you think their CDs are good, you have to see them live! Horns add great hooks to every song. Vinnie's drumming keeps the toes a tappin'. The best ska/punk band around, hands down! Best songs are: 9th At Pine, Happyman, Automatic, Sugar In Your Gas Tank, Shindo, Jen, Frank, and Lockdown. Every song on this CD is good - tons of energy. And it grows on you with every listen. I gave all my friends a copy of this tape as presents. That's how good it is. LTJ is like fine wine- should be shared and savored.
Less Than Jake are always a band to count on when making records is at hand. This album has it all from furios punk 'Just Like Frank' to the catchy numbers like '9th at Pine' and 'Shindo' but the best is left till last with the triumphant ' Rock And Roll Pizzeria'..and for those who are longtime fans they have re recorded 'Johnny Quest....' and 'Jen dont like me anymore'.A barnstorming classic!!!
This cd is good but after listening to it a lot it seems like most of the songs are pretty similar. The band has a lot of brass instuments in all of its songs giving it a more unique taste. The best songs on this cd include "automatic", "Happyman", "9th at pine" all of which have a lot of brass in the introductions, "shindo", "107" which both have some crisp and clear vocals, "johnny quest thinks were sellouts" which is my personal favorite, "hows my driving, doug hastings?", "just like frank", and "ask the magic 8 ball" The cd itslelf is a bright yellow so it is easy to find out of the corner of your eye when you are driving around.
I could sit there and listen to the whole album straight through. Excellent buy for ska fans! If you liked this album then you would also like "turn the radio off" by reel big fish.
You know one thing I like about this CD that I can't say about any of my others? Every person that I've let listen to it misteriously has a copy of it within a week. The best CD ever made, not only by LTJ, but ever.
