- LCD Soundsystem 45:33

Sounds warm and analogue, not stuffy and not serious. I'm listening to it now on Rhapsody. It is [updated] disco. But it seems affectionate, even fun, like playing with your fuzzy, clever robot kitty. I can see how it would be nice for running [or certain household or creative tasks] as it does engage that certain part of the brain so that the rest of you can focus. Thematically there's a fair amount going on. That said, it won't quite reward active listening. I'm at 14 minutes and so far I'm good; not bored. At 17 minutes it turns funky, at 19 it turns psy. Dag, I'm liking this. It has definitely suspended my disbelief. This definitely has a lot of personality and is cheeky sort of like Basement Jaxx, The Orb, or Yello [at 29 min it reminds me a little of Yello, in a good way]. Mmmm. Chunky. Okay I'll stop now. I know this review was trippy but hopefully it does sort of give you an idea of what to expect until a good reviewer comes along. Bye.

- Good for a 45 minute drive accross town...

This album really feels like a musical journey across a variety of styles and instrumentation. I can't say that I know the story behind the album or what influenced it, but I can tell you I like it.

I kind of just bought it on a whim and a good hunch. the only 2 tracks that i knew before buying this (along with Sound of Silver and their Self titled) were "Losing my edge" and "Yeah (pretentious mix)". With the exception of "hippie priest Bum out" this is one 45+ minute track that blends together 5 to 7 songs you would find on any other average cd. While there are alot of bright spots to be found on this one huge track, I really think they kick it up a notch around minute 17 and from there seamlessly span across different styles of dance music. Some of it very Herbie Hancock influenced, spacey techno, disco heavy Fat bass and then some. the last 10 minutes are like a subtle come down, but not much going on but a transcending synth pad.

so really, you're getting a good solid 35 minute musical journey that is upbeat, fun, and down right enjoyable. if you like LCD Soundsystem, Electronica, or dance pop with a nostalgic feel and modern approach, buy this album.

- All groove all the time

During its relatively brief tenure, LCD Soundsystem managed a unique blend of 70's/80's dance blended with the snark of New Wave and Punk. James Murphy never had any qualms about letting songs go on past the commercially acceptable 3-5 minute range and nowhere was that more obvious than on this "EP." I have to use quotations there because its strange referring to a 60+ minute album as an EP. The album's centerpiece and title track was originally designed to be listened to during a workout and was initially licensed to Nike. Despite being so functional, Murphy actually created something that stands up on its own. You just need to set the right expectations before hitting play. Most of the track (and the added songs) is made up of extended and rather repetitive grooves unlike the bands proper albums. As far as I'm concerned, this still makes for an engaging listen. This is also LCD's most psychedelic release, which lends a somewhat subversive feel to an otherwise corporate-commissioned piece. I don't recommend starting here if you're new to LCD. Try Sound of Silver or This Is Happening first and then venture down this path.

- Excellent Album! Good Sound. Hypnotic.

I first became aware of LCD Soundsystem through their "Sound of Silver" CD. I liked it so much that I also purchased "This is Happening" when it first came out and followed that up with "London Sessions." What a terrific bunch of CDs! At about that time I became aware that LCD was quitting and would have a grand final concert and that it would be out in the DVD format. Naturally, I had to have it. Well, it's the best concert DVD I own, out of a collection of about 25. Incredible!

In any case, I enjoy James Murphy and LCD Soundsystem so much that I went back and purchased several more CDs, including "45: 33." Evidently this comes in several versions so I might indicate that I have the version containing the very long "45:33" track, plus three shorter tracks. All make for very good listening.

The first track (actually 6 tracks) seems to play forever. It's long and drawn out with many interesting variations. My interest waxes and wanes as I listen to it. When I first listened to it, I became somewhat anxious wondering what all this was leading to. On later listens, I just relaxed and let it unfold. Very, very enjoyable! It's mostly electronic stuff, but has voices and a lot of acoustical instruments interspersed. Very nice mix. well done!

All of the following three tracks are well done and make for good listening. However, I especially like "North American Scum - Onanistic Dub." First of all, what a neat song! I was in love with it from the first listen on the "Sound of Silver" CD. Then I got a quite different version on the concert DVD. It was equally good, I might add, just different. Quite different. Now here it is again on the "45:33' CD and sounding quite different than the other two. Onanistic dub; that's funny! Well, what the hey? If I love the song what's better than three really quality versions of it? The song on this CD is stripped down to a throbbing hypnotic electronic background with a woman vocalist in the background yelling out "North America" (the only vocals) at selected intervals within the electronic background. It's quite different than the other two versions I have and, you know, the Onanistic Dub could actually end up as my favorite version.

Well, this is an excellent album. May I extend a plea to James Murphy? Please come back! It doesn't have to be as LCD Soundsystem. You're too great of a talent to lose. I'll buy anything you turn out. Trust me.

- Excellent music; low resolution download

Here's is what I wish I had known before I purchased this as a download: the main album downloads at 216kbps. the extra songs are a bit better, but still not even 256kbps. if i had to do it again, knowing what i just told you, i would have purchased the cd, ripped it and resold it. not going to knock it down in stars (they represent what i think of the music). the rest is to help you, the consumer, make an informed decision with info i did not have, but wish i did.
