Okay, so Ladytron put together a pretty good mix of tunes. Some rock, some hip hop, some electro, some indie... something for everyone basically. Stand out tracks (for me) are the "new" version of Ladytron's "Blue Jeans" (i'm guessing the original is on L&M, which i haven't listened to that much), and "Teenage Daughter" by Fat Truckers (some other reviewer didn't like this song but I think it rules. I thought hearing the phrase "teenage daughter" a hundred times would wear on me but it really hasn't). I also don't mind Ladytron's cover of Tweet's "Oops On My" but I would have left it alone if I were them.
But what really rocks my boat seriously, is the very last track on the cd, called "Some Velvet Morning," a duet by Lee Hazlewood and Nancy Sinatra. My life could've been incomplete forever had I not found this gem of a song on Ladytron's cd. I am absolutely nuts over it. The song plays out like a musical duel, shifting between Hazlewood's sleepy cowboy-esque ballad and Sinatra's "step-one-two" Lawrence Welk-ish coos. The vocal parts entwine closer and closer together until the listener is getting single lines alternating in time. I can't adequately explain how wonderful this song is. Whichever member of Ladytron that selected this song for Softcore Jukebox has given me a beautiful gift indeed.
This CD is awesome. You need to find a quiet place lay down on some pillows and relax to the sounds and songs of this CD. The dreamy essence of all of the selections will put you at ease especially after a hard day of work. I especially like the tracks from WIRe and Nancy SInatra/Lee Hazelwood- it so totally rocks. Ladytron puts on a good show for anyone that is interested.
Enjoy!
Since buying this cd, I've been scrambling buy the cds of several of the artists represented. Who is the heck is Dondolo? I have no idea, but Peng is a great track. Very upbeat and pleasant, it could easily be the background music for a new Nintendo game. Saviour Piece by Snap Ant has me bopping my head, an electro acoustic number with oh so eighties clapping thrown in. I loved their remix of Playgirl and I love this track, I want more Snap Ant! Hey Miami sounds just like you'd think it would, sunny bootyrap by some hoochie mammas, I've already grabbed a copy of Fannypack's cd, So Stylistic. They can thank Ladytron. Manila by Seelenluft reminds me of a spaced out version of something from Schoolhouse Rock, the vocals have a very nice little kid quallity to them. Crazy Girls, oh my, I think this might be the catchiest track on this disk - "And all the blah blah seems to boogie". Although there are a couple of tracks that really just don't cut it ( Ladytron's cover of Oops Oh My and Hit the North, Pt. 1 in particular ), this cd is very much worth buying.
Apologies for not reviewing earlier! CD came in mint condition! Not your typical playlist, so much variety and exposure! I was surprised by the choices on this playlist, and I got into Lee Hazelwood. By far, my favorite track! CD came earlier than expected, thank you!!! Would definitely buy from buyer again!
this is a fine compilation. the first 2 reviewers are idiots. i'd have bought it just for ladytrons cover of oops oh my. of note, the codec and flexor track was mediocre, however i may just be biased because when they opened for ladytron in nyc this spring they were completely awful. one guy pretending to tweak knobs as a dat plays, and one guy singing through distortion and jumping around aimlessly for an hour. it was interesting to see !!! on the cd.
