Though his public presence has always been cloaked in the tradition and mysticism of the culture into which he was born, Kitaro’s music does not yield to boundaries or national categories. His compositions weave ‘a boundless playworld of a thousand pictures and a web of gentleness and wonderment’.
This two disc set features the best of Kitaro from 1976-1986. It features music from his best selling albums during this period including Silk Road, Oasis, India, Millenia, Ki, Tunhuang and Silver Cloud.
Realize this original and universal soul who has become the master of the wordless lyric and experience the peace and harmony of this collection.
Writers have hinted at the healing properties of his ‘Sound Pictures’ and Kitaro has acknowledged that his purpose is to calm the inner person: "the wars in the world don’t come from outer space . . . people create them, people who have a war within themselves. I want to create music that eases that war within".
If an alien came down and asked me: "What is music?" I would give him Bach's "St.John Passion", a Mozart symphony, and Kitaro's "The Best of Ten". These are the works of a genius, a spiritual giant. There are selections in this collection that make me weep for joy. Buy this 2CD set and bathe in the glow of its magic.
Kirtaro's music stirs the soul. I was fan in 1982 when I owned a number of his albums on vinyl while living on Okinawa. Coming back to Okinawa last year prompted my search for Kitaro again. This "Best of Ten" collection on CD is awesome. Kitaro's musical genius captures traditional oriental impressions and mixes them with modern technology to make your stereo come alive!
Not only does Kitaro write and perform his music but it is as if we are only visitors to the pure passion that is his life. Pure passion is hard to find in our age of machines, unless, of course, one listens to Kitaro regularly!
For a prolific and good composer like Kitaro, it may be difficult to provide a nice compliation that can satisfy everyone. But this one does a pretty good job on selection of tracks. However, the CDs seem to be a bit "short" - time-wise, and I am a bit upset about having to pay a 2 CD price and then get a 1.5 CD worth music. Granted, the selections will be to the liking of all Kitaro and most New age fans...a little bit of repitition in tunes and arrangements, but nothing annoying. Good CDs, not classic. Between this and Mozart/Bach, pick the latter.
Kitaro has shared the creativeness of mind and spirit in his music that is beautifully conveyed in this collection of what I would consider to be his best works. The melodies within this album are soothing, thought-provoking, imaginative and powerful. One can't help but be transported to another place and another time, by a journey of sorts if you will, to a place where only one's soul finds in the moment of peace and meditation. Definitely worth listening to from beginning to end. Too bad there isn't a rating level of 6 stars!
