Análisis - Amazon.com
Originally the soundtrack to a Japanese television mini-series, Silk Road set the standard for electronic/spiritual albums in the mid-1980s. Kitaro's placement of synthesizer center-stage and densely layering complementary textures made Silk Road new age's innovative and influential equivalent of Sgt. Pepper's. Fluid synthesizer leads, sweeping washes, and sequenced rhythms evoke sacred-quest imagery that is imbued with a contemplative serenity. Soaring synthesizer lines suggest yearning for spiritual experience, while deep, rolling bass tones emulate a cosmic Om. The themes are continued in Silk Road II; both recordings are tastefully reserved--especially compared with the bombastic electronic orchestrations that mar many of Kitaro's later efforts. --Richard Price

- Absolutely amazing music...

I swear this music is otherworldly (and I'm not talking geographically). It is soothing, hypnotic, mesmerizing stuff. I wouldn't go so far as to say it is actively engaging but, when played in the background, it transforms the environment. Over time the melodies become clear and each listen is like returning to an old friend who company has always provided comfort.

Both volumes 1 and 2 form a companion set and are worth owning. I can't vouch for the CD (I used to go to sleep by a friends' copy a number of years ago but it, and he, is gone...) and can only speak of the vinyl LP but it sounds absolutely amazing. There are moments of great boldness and power and moments of solitude and silence. This music provides a great way to unwind or to contemplate the mysteries of the universe.

All of Kitaro's stuff, especially his older stuff, is excellent. Allow yourself the pleasure.

- Something...unbelievable

I remember when Silk Road series came out from the TV. I didn't know anything about Kitaro, but I was immediately obsessed with the music. This was the first album I bought and I think that it's one of the best I've ever heard. Especially the first melody is still my favourite. Thank you Kitaro for making such music!

- Flawed CD

I love Kitaro music and this is nice, some tracks are spectacular. Biggest problem is that the CD quality is garbage. Sound anamolies throughout the whole recording, stereo cutting in and out. First sort of this thing I've heard in over 325 CDs I have from various artists. And the sharp cutoff of one of, if not the best track, ruins the track IMO. I know I've read that it's supposed to be that way but I don't like it. But like I said, I could easily live with this in my collection if not for the poor manufacturing quality. Makes me want to ditch the CD and buy the 320bit mp3 download from 7digital.
