I love this CD. It combines the best of Kitaro's work with a full orchestra. The result is absolutely magnificent.
A friend played this album for me in 1991 -- on mint-condition vinyl -- and I was so stunned by the beauty of the music that I ran out and purchased a copy on CD, even though I had yet to purchase my first CD player. "Silk Road Suite" was an incredible improvement on the synthesiser-drive album "Silk Road" because it was recorded with the London Symphony Ochestra. I now own 11 Kitaro albums (and saw Kitaro live in 1999 in Albuquerque, New Mexico), and this remains my favorite. I listen to the back-to-back songs "Peace" and "Journey" to begin meditations. Whenever I play this CD at my office, people invitably ask, "Who is that?" and "Where can I get a copy?" It's too bad there are no longer song samples for this album. A good comparison might be the orchestration of "Kojiki," although "Silk Road Suite" is generally a gentler album. I plan on obtaining a second copy, for fear my single CD copy may develop a glitch and become unplayable.
In this CD Kitaro explodes the magical and misterious ways of the life. Songs like Peace or Bell Tower have the particularity of move our mind to another place.
Great sounds for relaxing and thinking of something other than my problems. Very creative and different for a change. Made my heart sing and want to be out on the hiking trail experiencing the wonders.
The original Silk Road suite was written as an integral part of a TV documentary (BBC, as I recall). The visuals combined with Kitaro's music made this a unique experience - living in Hong Kong, we would tune into the weekly TV program primarily because of the stunning music. Later while traversing much of the Silk Road route in the Gobi Desert and western China, the evocative music exactly fit the landscape. Adding the orchestra takes away from the flavor and turns this music into very good background elevator music. The original concept is much preferred.
