- Stunning!

It is obvious why America chose Miss Kelly Clarkson as the first American Idol. Her stunning voice was the best of the competition and she puts it to use in her first 2 songs. A Moment Like This and Before Your Love. The songs are very sweet and to the point, but with Kellys vocals they become soaring powerhouse ballads. Her voice is so beautiful, natural, and effortless. We have not had such a lovely voice in music in quite a while and the songs here are a nice change of pace from the rap/hip-hop/rock music getting airplay. Hopefully her entire album will be just as wonderful, and hopefully the industry won't snub her come Grammy time just because she was the product of a television show. In my opinion Kelly should win Best Female Vocal Performance. A wonderful new talent that deserves all the success that comes her way.

- Absolutely Fabulous Kelly

One glorious voice turns two sappy love longs into something still worth-listening. No, I don't care about either For A Moment Like This or Before Your Love, and I still want to give it 5 stars. For heaven's sake, somebody please write a decent song for Kelly to really show off her great voice. Will I buy this CD? Yes, she's simply amazing. This girl can sing!

- WOW, I can't believe I'm the first one!

Kelly Clarkson, the winner of American Idol 2002, sounds phenomenal on this CD single. I have been a fan of hers all summer, and couldn't wait to get this today. The songs are kinda low-bid love songs. Very generic, very wedding-appropriate (which is not necessarily a bad thing). But the fans of AI have been talking about how poor the songs are. All I have to say is this: They may be poorly written songs, but Kelly sings them really well. She sounds extraordinary; she makes you feel her joy when she sings. Her voice is powerful and strong to make you sit up and listen, but also soft and tender enough to put you at ease, to relax and enjoy.

But this CD. The songs as they are written are not the greatest. Diane Warren formula love songs. But Diane Warren has been mega-successful sticking to what she does best. And she has hit it again with these songs. Diane could not have asked for a better singer than Kelly to interpret these songs.

If you don't like sappy pop love songs, then this isn't the CD for you. But if you are an AI fan, or just enjoy excellent vocalists, pick this up. It's cheap, no big investment. Get your feet wet with Kelly. You won't be disappointed.

- Voice, talent, charisma, and hardly anything to show for it

Ok, so I watched a few shows of American Idol, but only to see if any of the contestants could actually sing. Kelly Clarkson showed everyone that she had an amazing voice and plenty of style when she sang R&B classics like "Respect" and "Natural Woman," but now she is suddenly forced to sing two awful singles barely distinguishable from each other. I've gotten the idea from a few things I've read about her that Kelly has written plenty of her own songs, but it doesn't look like she is being given to have any opportunity to use them. American Idol has already given her a pre-packaged song, meaning that they obviously were counting on the winner of the show not having any talent and feeling that they would have to have everything ready ahead of time so the singer's own personal style wouldn't be able to come out at all. I only hope that Kelly's full length CD has more of her own material and less pre-manufactured unoriginal pop.

- Talent wasted on poor songwriting

I just received this single yesterday (9/22/02). Kelly Clarkson is a wonderful singer, but she is brought down by cheesy songwriting. I don't think she does lovesongs very well. She shines in songs that she performed in the American Idol Series, such as RESPECT. The cheesy song 'moment like this' does not allow Kelly's awesome singing ability to come through. Now, if I could get a cd quality recording of all the songs she performed on her way to winning, I would buy that in a heartbeat.
