The only way this "DIGI-PAK" is different from the regular CD is that the DIGI-PAK does not come in a jewel case. Instead, the CD is inside a cardboard foldout case. It still will keep your CD protected, but the liner notes fall out quite easily. For fans that will bring the cd EVERYWHERE, you're better off getting the Jewel-case regular edition because it won't damage as quickly. But for fans that have to have it all, the DIGI-PAK is a must-need collectible! Despite the title, there are no hidden digital tracks or digital enhancements.
The track listing is the same as the non-Digi Pak (as follows)
"Justified" is one of the hottest CDs out! Justin's attempt to step out on his own is more like a huge leap out on his own. The combination of his smooth vocals laced with some of the hottest Neptunes and Timbaland (among others) produced beats makes for an exceptional album. [This is a fairly long review, but it's track-by-track, in depth, and should prove to be really insightful! :) ]
Senorita: This Neptunes track features a lively beat you can groove to. The song is fun and easy to listen to. Justin's sings the majority of this song as a tenor (a sound familiar to *NSYNC fans). It also features an introduction by Pharrell Williams and a fun guy/girl sing-along that's a throw back to old school.
Like I Love You: This 1st single is a heater! This song -- currently all over radio -- features live instruments and introduces the world to a falsetto Justin had previously kept under wraps. He makes great use of it in this song and that has garnered references to an "Off the Wall" era Michael Jackson. If that's the case, this is the album Michael should have released. The rapping duo Clipse (and fellow Virginians to the 'Tunes) makes an appearance on this track.
(Oh No) What You Got: With Middle Eastern influences strewn about an infectious hip-hop beat, this Timbaland produced track is one of the best on the album. Justin's buttery vocals seductively sing of a girl who's making eyes at him from across a room and it's clear from this track why she's doing so. This is the kind of song you play on repeat because it's that good. Actually, the vast majority of the album is that good... that great, really.
Take It From Here: Corny lyrics abound in this song, however, it's still enjoyable. Justin's voice makes up for it. This song is the first of the more mellow tracks on "Justified." It has a nice, laid-back feel to it.
Cry Me A River: Scheduled to be the 2nd single, this is yet another great effort by Timbaland as a producer. The beat is something that he would normally have reserved for the late Aaliyah, and Justin definitely does it justice. The lyrics seem to be alluding to a certain break up (i.e.: 'you don't have to say/what you did/i already know/i found out from him', 'so you took a chance/and made other plans/but i bet'cha didn't think that they would some crashing down/no...'). The powerful back up vocals by Marsha Ambroise, Tyrone Tribett & Greater Anointing add to an already outstanding song.
Rock Your Body: The Neptunes shine again as the producers of this track. Justin's sensual voice only adds to the flavor of this club song. Vanessa Marquez appears as the girl who elicits this line from Justin: 'bet i'll have you naked by the end of this song.' Listen for a bass line reminiscent of Queen's 'Another One Bites the Dust' during a breakdown. Justin's beatboxing skills are also highlighted in this song.
Nothin' Else: A few more corny lyrics here, but generally a good song. Justin's easy on the ears in this song in which he sings about a girl who's 'outta of this world except (she's) not green.' The beat is rhumba influenced and different from anything the Neptunes has done before. This is a track which is mellow and relaxing. Justin has proclaimed this to be his favorite from the album.
Last Night: A straight R & B track. Justin once again effectively uses the falsetto in parts of this song in which he croons over a hot 'Tunes beat. This song -- twinged with Neptunes trademarks -- easily surpasses Usher's 'U Don't Have to Call' as the best R & B song they've produced. Pharrell makes a small singing cameo during the hook. A break down featuring live strings adds favorably to this great track.
Still On My Brain: Produced by The Underdogs (which they clearly won't be for much longer). This ballad features yet another smooth turn from Justin in the vocals department. The beat is almost lullaby-like with very soft and pleasing sounds. Justin's repetitions of "la" at the end bring forth pleasant memories of Stevie Wonder.
(And She Said) Take Me Now: Another one of the racier songs on the album. This song features a hook sung by Janet Jackson and a hot beat by Timbaland. Once again, Justin's falsetto makes a good song even better. In signature Timbaland style, the song switches up at the end and transforms into a hip-hop beat laden with electronically generated effects. Timbaland makes a cameo during this part of the song.
Right For Me: More edgy lyrics are featured here -- 'I could think of a couple positions for you.' Justin takes a Nelly-like approach to the song: he's half-singing and half-rapping... and it works well for him. Timbaland comes up with another unique beat that most prominently consists of percussion and beatboxing. Bubba Sparxxx guests on this track and adds even more bounce to this Southern style jam.
Let's Take A Ride: Justin delightfully sings his way through another great Neptunes track. He uses more of a tenor-borderline-baritone voice for most of the song. With his slick voice and Chad & Pharrell's amazing beats, this song make anyone want to hop in the car with Justin.
Never Again: Accompanied by strings and piano notes, Justin's voice takes on an ethreal quality on this track. Brian McKnight adds his signature ballad style to the song and makes it even better. Justin's beautiful voice drips raw emotion on this deeply personal track and you can virtually feel the heartahce he sings of resonate through the speakers.
Justin Timberlake has smoothly made the transition from boy band member to R & B crooner with the release of "Justified." He truly shows off his multi-faceted vocal ability, writing talent, arranging skills and many other musical gifts on his first solo effort. Coming from a true music lover, this is one of the best releases of 2002! Enjoy it... I do!! :)
With being a N'Sync fan already, I'm suprised with the solo project.
1.Senorita- Neptunes joint, salsa feel, old school ending "guy's say something" "girls say something back"
Good, diverse, a good amount of getting over a 'heartbreak' songs, all around a fine album
Justin Timberlake is one of the most underrated artist out right now. I'm not a big *NSYNC fan and I think alot of people base Justin's solo career on his past pop outings. Half the people that critize this album have never even heard it. Anyone that really appreciates R&B will like this album. Most of the bad reviews are from metal heads that hate anything thats not metal. Even then, Marilyn Manson admited to owning this album because he says he likes it alot. People don't want to like it but it definetly deserves a chance. Here's my review of the songs.
1. Senorita - This is just a stripped down, layed back song that really shows off Justin's vocals. The throwback at the end of the song is cool too. A little shout out by Pharrel at the beginning as well. (7/10) - Produced by The Neptunes
2. Like I Love You - HOT song. Period. Anyone that hears this and doesn't start nodding their head to the beat just doesn't have any sense of rhythm whatsoever. The loud beat of the drums and the acoustic guitar makes it so you cannot help but vibe to this one. (10/10) - Produced by The Neptunes
3.(Oh No) What You Got - Definetly a party song. Put this on and everybody will be on the floor grindin. There's a flute in this song that definetly gives it a middle eastern vibe and just makes the song flow. (7/10) - Produced by Timbaland
4. Take It From Here - Alot of people won't appreciate this song. It's a nice, smooth, slow song that sounds different from every other slow song out there and has good harmonies and creative lyrics. Definetly listen to this a couple times before blowing it off. (10/10) - Produced by The Neptunes
5. Cry Me A River - SICK song. The beat is crazy and the harmonies make the song a haunting, interesting song. This is obviously about Britney Spears. I saw Timbaland in an interview and he said that Justin had seen something about Britney on TV that made him mad and they went straight into the studio and recorded this song. To me, that makes it even more interesting. (10/10) - Produced by Timbaland
6. Rock Your Body - Too many people complain that this sounds like a ripoff of Michael Jackson's "Rock With You", but I don't think so. I think people see that the names are similar and both of the songs are light party songs and they just judge without really thinking about the two tracks. Even if it is though, so what??? There's nothing wrong with more of a good thing. This is another one that will get you dancing. (10/10) Produced by The Neptunes
7. Nothin' Else - I absolutely love this song. You can tell right away that it's a Neptunes song because it's so unique. It's like nothing else on the album. The lyrics are also something that makes this song good ("There's nothing else that I have seen, there's no getting around it or inbetween. Your out of this world, except your not green. . ."). It's just smooth. (10/10) Produced by The Neptunes
8. Last Night - Probably my least favorite song on the album, but not a bad song. The beat is a little too pop for me and Justin's vocals are a little too high on the chorus, but in the end it's just funky. (5/10) Produced by The Neptunes
9. Still On My Brain - This is a Great slow R&B song. I love it. The chorus flows very smoothly and is definetly a song you put on when you're with your lady. (10/10) Produced by The Underdogs
10. (And She Said) Take Me Now - This is the song that features Janet Jackson. She's only in the beginning, talking, but it's still Janet. Justin's vocals are high in this song and it makes it even hotter with Timbalands beat. At the end it breaks off into kind of remix. This is definetly a song to put on at a party. (7/10) Produced by Timbaland
11. Right For Me - STANKY. That's the only way to describe this funked up timbaland joint. The way Justin sings the song, it has a southern feel to it. Bubba Sparxxx makes it even more country, but that's definetly not a bad thing. It has that dirrty south feel to it that is just. . .stanky. (10/10) Produced by Timbaland
12. Let's Take A Ride - Another song alot of people don't appreciate. This is a song that you put on in the car and just chill to. It's a Neptunes produced song that's somewhat slow, but a song that you'll definetly nod your head to. (9/10) Produced by The Neptunes
13. Never Again - This song is definetly the most personal (about his breakup with Britney), but it just feels kind of tacked on. It doesn't really fit with everything else on the album and it's not as good as the other slow songs on the album. I guess he just wanted this song on there because it was a personal thing. Great to see him working with Brian McKnight again too. (6/10) Produced by Brian McKnight
If you like R&B, definetly give this a chance. It's nothing like *NSYNC and I think Justin has the chance to crossover into R&B and make some really classic records. Go pick this up.
First start off with a multi-platinum group like NSync (and you might hate them.. and that's fine, because this is not at all an NSync sound), subtract their youngest member, arguably the most talented - Justin. Add the hottest producers in the industry - geniuses like the Neptunes and Timbaland, and throw in a ballad by Brian McKnight for good measure. Now, before everything, you've got to have Justin going through some things, otherwise you might end up with the bubble gum pop of before... but now that he's had his heart broken, he's not the mischievious teenager of before; he's now hitting us with the mature, R&B sound that you can tell he desperately wanted to achieve.
We all have heard the two hit singles from the CD spinning on the radios and MTV in heavy rotation - Like I Love You and Cry Me A River. The CD holds several other songs that could be just as popular. The ones that are most prominent for me are:
Rock Your Body - a cute uptempo song that is definitely NOT NSync at all (Justin is betting a girl that he'll have her naked by the end of this song...)
I'll bet his record label is thanking their lucky stars (and checkbooks) that they moved forward as quickly as they did with this project... it'd be a fabulous Christmas present. Throughout 2002, we've seen several hit records in the R&B/Pop categories, but I think this one will really stand alone, most obviously because of Justin's beautiful voice - talent hasn't proven to be most important to the world this year, (I won't say ANY names) - also due to the lyrical content of the songs and the great producers.
