If you've never heard of this particular best of compilation, you should know that it's the best of the first two Judas Priest albums. It still has some great heavy metal tunes for just being off the first two releases. Of course the biggest hit off this one is the track "Victim of Changes". The track "Diamonds and Rust" is supposedly different from the one on SIN AFTER SIN, and how can you go wrong with the tracks "The Ripper", and "Rocka Rolla". I would suggest that you just go out and buy the first two albums ROCKA ROLLA and SAD WINGS OF DESTINY, because they have more good tracks than this best of has to offer. If you're buying the old RCA version that I bought from the late 80's, you might not like that it is mastered at a low level, and the highs aren't crisp and biting, but if you have the newer version of this best of with the Rob Halford interview and other bonuses, I think that version might have been remastered, but I'm not completely sure. I don't think originally this was sanctioned by Priest, and it's weird that someone would put out a greatest hits or best of right after their second album, so I'm wondering why it was ever made. If you don't want to buy SAD WINGS or ROCKA ROLLA, this will give you just about the best tunes of those albums, so give it a thought. ENJOY!!!

This album exemplifies the 1970's metal genre. Heavy riffs, psuedo-moshy ballads, fast intricate bridges and of course screaming. Judas Priest never sounded better than on these songs. Rob Halford performs timeless metal gusto all the while showing his and the bands versatility through odd time signatures and styles. Halford sings in lower octaves on some songs and I swear you have never heard such a naturally talented voice, save for Jim Morrison and Ozzy!
