Análisis - Product Description
Thanks to a fortuitous intersection of talent and fate, 22-year-old Josh Groban hasn't finished his senior year in performing arts school but has already released his sophomore effort on a major major label. Fans of the young vocal phenom's debut will find much to enthrall them here, even if it nudges the singer closer to the center of producer/mentor David Foster's MOR pop sensibilities. Eschewing much of its predecessors more overt classic-lite pretensions and pop-rock covers for a slate of dramatic, Eurocentric ballads that serve as a showcase for the singer's inviting baritone, Groban shrewdly positions himself as the American alternative to the Bocelli-Watson crossover axis. "Caruso" may find the singer falling short of its operatic inspiration, but "Oceano" and "My Confession" quickly showcase the singer's true dramatic range (which seems to all but yearn for a bona fide Broadway musical challenge), while a vocal take of Bacalov's graceful "Il Postino" theme uses classical virtuoso Joshua Bell's violin flourishes to good effect. A special edition of Closer includes two new tracks, the EPK and exclusive footage of "the making of" the album.

To his credit, Groban displays some promising efforts at songwriting collaboration on the bittersweet "Per Te" and "Remember When It Rains," while the ambient/ethnic soundscape of Deep Forest's "Never Let Go" offers a teasing alternative to the record's otherwise melodramatic production formula. Groban has found commercial triumph via Foster's mentoring, but there remains a nagging sense here that he hasn't truly pushed himself as an artist--yet. --Jerry McCulley

- You want this CD!

If you've gotten down to the reviews of this CD, you are either considering buying it or confirming that others like it as much as you do. If you're considering buying it, the best way to decide is to go www.joshgroban.com>news and play all of the songs in their entirety, and then come back here and buy it.

What I've found, after MANY spins through the entire CD, is a much more exciting, vibrant collection than his previous studio and live releases. "Closer" is the union of Josh Groban's great voice, first-rate material perfectly suited to his strengths, and the heart of a singer who sounds like he'd rather wade into the audience than front an orchestra. And he's not just a singer; he co-wrote some excellent songs in this collection, plays piano, and could have (but doesn't) play drums as well. In other words, there's a lot more music in Josh Groban than just his voice, and in interviews, he's expressed his wish to bring out more of his talents in future releases.

Back to the music: it's excellent. While the voice alone could carry these songs and hold your interest, the variety of moods, arrangements, even genres, makes this collection a huge step forward from his strong debut CD. This is an adult contemporary CD for rock fans, a pop CD for classical music lovers, and a great CD for multi-genre fans who like strong voices and smart music.

- Josh Groban....extended edition

With the additional tracks Mi Morena and She's Out of My Life, Josh shows even more versatility to his second studio album, Closer.

Never ceasing to be amazing, Josh fills every note with a musicality and passion that many young pop stars seem to be incapable of commandeering.

Josh's musicality clearly shines through as he shows his ability to not only sing like an angel but also compose lyrics, orchestrate arrangements, and accompany himself on the piano.

A must for fans of his first album and his unique style.

- { { { EXQUISITE & BEAUTIFUL } } }

Josh Groban's sophomore effort, Closer, is definitely a true testament to his natural musical talents. The album makes you FEEL the music. Closer is an amazing emotional journey with endless words to describe the feelings it brings out of you - passion, romance, love, sorrow, pain, excitement, mystery, dark, power, etc, etc...very few artists can leave chills down your spine. Every song on this album is strong on its own merits, except Broken Vow - the previous live version is definitely better. Remember When It Rained is the album's standout, showcasing Josh's vocal range and styles and the inserted piano solo (by Josh) is a perfect surprise. Overall Josh has started to find his own style and direction on Closer. Its not just about "That" great voice but more of a close to perfect and exquisite blend of voice, song and emotion. If you have ears, you should have this album.

PS: The two additional tracks on this limited edition version is worth the purchase on their own. AND if you were lucky to snag the "Internet Lmited Edition" (which is out-of-print), the two EXTRA songs on there are great. I have all three versions myself.

- HE DID IT AGAIN!!!!!

I actually bought the internet only version for an extra ten bucks and it was completely worth it. Josh Groban, David Foster, and company have done it again. Absolutely incredible follow-up album. There is not one song on this CD that you'll want to skip. This has joined my other two CDs of his in a permanent place in my CD carousel. Another masterpiece!!!

- mi morena

I was profoundly touched by Josh Groban's sophomore CD closer. His vocals are truely stellar and as a singer I can only imagine the work and training he has dedicated to this album. The musical orchestration adds to the emotional impact of this album. I especially enjoyed the song Mi Morena by Martin Page. One of the few tracks that was not written/ produced by David Foster the track is lovely. This song is poetic, lyrically beautiful, and masterfully sung by Josh Groban. I would definitely recomend this CD to anyone who enjoys beautiful singing.
