- WAY short on music...questionable production.

Nearly all of these songs could have fit onto one CD. However, they decided to put only 10 songs on each disc of this compilation. Whenever you see a "box set" that has very few tracks on each disc, you should usually run, because it is not a collection assembled by the original label, and usually has shoddy production. This is no different. The song choices are ok, but it's far overpriced for the amount of music you get. It's also questionable where these masters were obtained, since Yoko has a pretty tight control on the release of her husband's music.

For an alternative, either get the remastered albums individually, or Working Hero: Definitive John Lennon Collection. It has fewer discs, but MORE MUSIC, is a remastered and authorized collection, and it COSTS LESS than this one. Don't be duped by the other fanboy review. Get a quality product at a great price, not this overpriced monstrosity.

- Not just another compilation

I picked this up today wondering if it was an import from Canada (the tin is from mainland China however, but thats different). I do because the label are from outside Montréal, Québec, where John & Yoko had their second full-length bed-in in May 1969 ("Give Peace a Chance" represents that period). It says that the discs were made by EMI/Capitol in the States, but I think they just licenced the tracks to Madacy, as I also have an Elton John CD of theirs, and might get the Moody Blues tinned collection next. Also, I wonder if this counts as an official release as anything like this with the Lennon name has to go through the missus first, yet there's a similiar compilation from another budget label called Instant Karma - All-Time Greatest Hits. The Lennon estate recognise at least five official compilations from Shaved Fish to Power to the People: The Hits.

I have to say that the tracks have been cleaned up nicely, and may be just as good if not better as on the recent remasters. They sound clearer than ever.

This would be good for casual fans, completists, and those getting to know Lennons solo work. All the songs we know and love are here such as "Cold Turkey", "(Just Like) Starting Over", and of course, "Imagine".

I could have gotten this last week, but these were songs I had anyway, but I still felt I had to get this one. Something different. I do have 'The John Lennon Collection', 'Lennon Legend', and 'Shaved Fish' (the only one he lived to see in shops). Putting together the same material in different permutations of course cannot fill the void of a new studio album. Maybe Yoko has more in store but that has to be released by her through EMI proper and not an impulse-buy bargain bin label.

They could have filled up the discs more by putting tracks like "Move Over Ms L", "God Save Oz" and others on here. Of course, you can get the original albums.

I might keep this if this is US made (I obsessively collect imports), though I know who would like this. It is value for money, and comes in eco-friendly packaging.

Before dismissing this as another poor-mans album, do have a look inside and have a listen. You can hear these classics in a whole new way.
