Review - Amazon.com
That Jessica Simpson has been groomed to become the next (as well as younger, whiter, and more virginal) Mariah Carey should come as no great shock. Production by slavish imitation is the way it goes these days, and wanting to duplicate Carey's success is understandable. Yet the downside of idol worship (Simpson grew up with the octave-conquering diva as a touchstone) is the loss of unique identity, and sadly that's exactly what has occurred. From the wordless sighs to the mock Spanish guitars added for international appeal, to the overwrought power ballads and faux hip-hop flavored up-tempo cuts, Simpson, who can sing, is a prisoner of by-the-numbers production and songs by the usual pop/R&B-lite suspects. The end result is sonically stellar, but is too close to a generic endeavor that does little to establish Simpson as an artist. Still, Irresistible will no doubt firm up her already serious stats as a rising young star. --Amy Linden

- Ok- so it is pop.... so what?

OK, yeah- this CD is straight up pop. Not really much substance, not much creativity...but who cares? It's hot. The songs are fun, energetic and just cool. Honestly, yeah, she is copying Britney. But y'all- think about it. Britney has sold like ten million albums, is admired by many (hated by many.....but we're not talking about that!), and worshipped by just about every single guy in the world. Who wouldn't want that? Maybe she would use this Cd as a vehicle to acheive success and then put out strong, expressive music. Think about this too, Madonna started singing pop that everyone wrote her off. Now, the same critics are salivating over her. So, who are y'all to say this is limiting her career? Sorry- It just bugs me! Ok- the CD. I bought it cuz I like the single "Irresistable". it's a sugary-pop, radio friendly, over produced song. So?!!!!! It has fun beats, is catchy, and just straight up enjoyable. The rest of the Cd basically follows suit. So if you like good pop- this CD is for you. For everyone else who complains about even the single- why exactly did you get this CD if you don't like pop? What were you expecting? Some groundbreaking material? that it's not. But it's fun, lighthearted and catchy as hell.

- Jessica:Simp-ly Irresistible

This is Jessica Simpson's highly anticipated 2nd piece of work & might I add that I was extremely impressed.I had heard negative reviews coming from peeps but 1 of my mottos is to have your own experiences & not believe evrything u hear or read.

1.IRRESISTIBLE-5/5 This is the peppy title track that introduces the world to the new & improved Jessica. It's a good song to dance to! Especially in a club!

2.A LITTLE BIT-5/5 "It's not about who's weak or strong,it's about what I need to make this last" ahhh,I love that line in Jessica's informed 2nd single, great choice Simpson clan! I looove this tune! Alot of girl power & attitude!

3.FOREVER IN YOUR EYES-4/5 This is 1 of the 2 songs that Nick,Jess's beau wrote,it shows us the more sensual & passionate side of her.Basically it shows how Jess has changed from a sweet 17 yr.old girl from TX to a mature 21 yr.old woman who's in control.

4.THERE YOU WERE (Duet w/ Marc Anthony)-5/5 I love anything M.Anthony does so u can bet I loved this! It's a very thoughtful song,it sounds like it's gonna b a theme to a movie!

5.WHAT'S IT GONNA BE-5/5 A Britney-inspired track,it's a booty-boppin' type of song! ROCK ON! GIRL POWER!

6.WHEN U TOLD ME U LOVED ME-5/5 A sad Jess ballad,it's a tearjerker.I like how it's peaceful & easy 2 listen 2,she doesn't get really high in the singing in this song...nuff said! My third fave!

7.HOT LIKE FIRE-5/5 My fave on the album,I'm actually feeling a young Michael Jackson when she starts getting really into the song! I dunno why, hehe. It's Jess telling off her cheating lover.MORE POWER 2 JESS!

8.IMAGINATION-4/5 I looove,love,love the beats in this song,really creative.Really catchy lyrics! "I wished upon a star 2night,that u would grant my wish 2night,I wish I may I wish I might,have a wish I wished tonight,take me 2 the 1 in my imagination!"

9.TO FALL IN LOVE AGAIN-3/5 The 2nd song Nick wrote,it,again shows us the more grown up Jess,I wouldn't dream of Jess singing this.Especially how she sings it! On the + side, the lyrics are pretty good!

10.FOR YOUR LOVE-5/5 I love this song! It's one of my faves! The vocals are awesome! It has very meaningful lyrics unlike some other artists *cough* Britney *cough*.

11.I NEVER-3/5 This is produced by Rodney Jerkins,it's easy to tell bcuz all his songs have the same beat & Jess says "Darkchild" in the beginning. It's a hot song! Jess wasn't joking when she said she was going more R&B

12.HIS EYE IS ON THE SPARROW-4/5 I like the Lauryn Hill version on Sister Act 2 more than Jess's gospel version but u can tell that she would also succeed in the gospel/CCM circuit but I love the instruments & the gospel choir! Jess used to sing this at church when she was a little girl!

- Fabulous

In my opinion, Jessica Simpson is a highly talented, and wonderful singer. 'Sweet Kisses', her debut album, was very good, and 'Irresistable' shows more maturity. Let me review it for you.

1. Irresistable- You've probably heard this on the radio enough times, but it really is a catchy song with a catchy tune. I can never get tired of it.

This cd was beautiful, much better than 'Sweet Kisses.' This is definitely a cd you should not miss.

- Can you say...dreadful???

When I first listened to this album in 2001, I thought it was a very good pop album. Recently I was watching Newlyweds and thought about listening to this CD again just for fun. Thank God I borrowed it and didn't buy it myself. At the time I thought this was good because teen pop was all the rage. Listening to it now, I see what a worthless piece of junk it is. Jessica simply tried too hard with this album, and it shows. Whether it's trying to sound hip over cliched hip hop beats or trying to sound vindictive in the horrible "Hot Like Fire", this album reeks of desperation. In fact, her label used this album to sex up her image, and since there is justice in this world, their ploy failed miserably. The only thing worth listening to is the title track, and even that isn't as good as I once thought it was. The album truly goes over the top in the last song, "His Eye Is On the Sparrow". It starts off tolerable, but then it goes off in a hilariously bad direction that completely ruins the song. She tries to sound "soulful" here by making it sound as if the song was recorded in an African-American church, and that is what torpedoes the song. I admire the fact that she wants to sing a song about Jesus, but that doesn't automatically make it a good song.

I do not recommend this album. The lack of imagination and the abundance of desperation are just too apparent to ignore. This album does no favors for Jessica. I like her show, but this CD is proof of why her career was going down the toilet before she did Newlyweds.

- "Irresistible" is nearly as good as her debut

1. "Irresistible" 10/10

2. "A Little Bit" 10/10

3. "Forever In Your Eyes" 10/10

4. "There You Were" feat. Marc Anothony 10/10

5. "What's It Gonna Be" 8/10

6. "When You Told Me You Loved Me" 10/10

7. "Hot Like Fire" 9/10

8. "Imagination" 7/10

9. "To Fall In Love Again" 10/10

10. "For Your Love" 10/10

11. "I Never" 8/10

12. "His Eyes On The Sparrow" 10/10

While "Sweet Kisses" dealt with the more positive aspects of love, "Irresistible" deals with the more negative and darker side of love & romance. As usual Jessica sounds her best, most confident and most charismatic when singing Celine-esque power ballads such as the the third single from the album, "There You Were" feat. Marc Anthony, and the bittersweet to meloncholy "When You Told Me You Loved Me", "To Love Again" and "For Your Love." All fabulous Adult Contemporart songs. She excels at Dance-Pop songs which allow her voice to shine such as "A Little Bit", "Irresistible", "Hot Like Fire" & "I Never." The sensual slow jam, "Forever In Your Eyes" shows Jessica being sexual in the right way allowing her own singing style to take control. "Imagination" is decent but would have been better suited to pop singer, Mya. The album's closer, "His Eyes On The Sparrow" shows her at her finest and most assured. Overall, a good album recommended to Dance-Pop music fans.
