Both of these scores are superior to Shaft. Truck Turner, a movie starring Mister Hayes, was originally released as a double LP. It contains a a wide variety of Isaac's rummage shop funkyisms ranging from the cool George Benson riffs of Driving in the Sun to the soff porn vocals of House Full of Girls to the rather amazing psychedelica of Insurance Company.
Until a few years ago, both of these soundtracks were commonly found in bargain bins. The CD release is particularly welcome because Stax in its later years used bargain bin vinyl pressings that made for a pretty ugly fidelity.
DJ Rix
just got my copy in the mail today.right now i'm playing "Joe Bell" after like playing 5 times already!..this set is what i call "Danceable Movie Funk" meaning that you can get on the dancefloor and groove to this music as well...and "A House Full Of Girls?".....THAT SONG IS OWNING ME..it's sensual.it's 70's( and that's not a bad thing either given that i was born a year before this came out:)....if you're a fan of the 70's soundtracks-especially of the african-american genre, RUN..DON'T WALK to buy your copy of this set. you won't be disappointed. i'm not.
Love, Peace And Hair grease ya'll!
This is a great purchase 2 cds for the price of one, i mean c'mon. Both these cd's mainly consist of instrumentals(the best vocal song is give it to me if I remember correctly). If you wanna get straight to the craziness then go ahead and put the cd on Red Rooster and let it play from there. "Hung up on my baby" would have to be my favorite on the first cd and "Breakthrough" on the second. The combination from "Breakthrouh" into "Now we're one" is amazing you go from intense funk into some nice groovin' jazz in a matter of seconds. Great purchase especially, because you can buy it very cheap. Enjoy.
My Mother use to Bump some Isaac Hayes soundtracks.his Genius is all over these sets.the man feels his grooves&sounds.he gives the goods here with both sets.he is way more than Shaft.he takes his sound into other directions.very underrated for his overall body of work for film.check this out.
The film, Truck Turner, starring Isaac Hayes as Mac "Truck" Turner, a bounty hunter out to clean up the streets and mess up the pimps has a jammin' soundtrack. I havent heard the "Tough Guys" soundtrack but if its Isaac, you won't be let down. If you liked the music from Shaft you will definitely dig this. Rent Truck Turner tonight and you'll see what I mean.
