- Brazilian rock at its best

Los Hermanos was a Brazilian "modern rock" band that immediately caught the imagination of its home country upon forming in the late 1990s. After 4 albums in the decade that followed, lead singer and primary songwriter called it a day and embarked on a solo career. This album is a live recording from the very last show that the band played, on June 9, 2007, in Sao Paolo.

"Na Fundicao Progresso" (14 tracks; 57 min.) brings in essence a 'greatest hits live' from Los Hermanos. When opening track "Dois Barcos" crashes in, what is remarkable is how you can hear the crowd sing along with every word, and it stays like that on pretty much every song on here. Other highlights for me on here include "Alem Do Que Se Ve", "Retrato Pra Iaia", "O Vendecor", "Cara Estranho" and of course "Anna Julia". the breakthough hit of the band from its 1999 debut album. But there really is no weak track on here. If you are looking for a good and repersentative album of Brazilian rock, look no further: "Na Fundicao Progresso" fits the bill perfectly.

I recently visited Sap Paolo, and my friend there informed me that Los Hermanos had agreed to a one-off reunion (for two shows), opening for Radiohead and Kraftwerk. This triple-header took place at Chacara de Joquei, for a crownd of about 30,000 fans. And it was incredible to see how revered Los Hermanos still is by the home crowd. As was the case on the live album, here also every song evolved in a massive singalong. It was quite impressive and made for a fantastic experience.
