Review - Amazon.com
Even when Hilary Duff is at her most un-Lizzie McGuire-like, it's impossible not to like her, as she proves on this reinvention-themed, girl-grows-up album. Free her from the constraints of the teen-queen slumber party scene and she'll crank up the guitars and "Fly," as she does on the feel-good first single; give her a minute to reflect on life as a multi-hyphenate (in her case TV princess-movie star-pop goddess) and she'll come clean with "Underneath This Smile," an introspective winner not lacking--and yet not reaching--for sunshine, or "Who's That Girl," an unapologetic embrace of self-contradiction. Songwriters Diane Warren ("I Am") and Charlie Midnight, whose contributions to Duff's last album don't seem so yesterday as yet, pitch in, as does Hilary's star-in-her-own-right sister Haylie (the boyfriend-blasting "Mr. James Dean"). If there's evidence of the mixed-up lovable kook millions of teens once modeled themselves after here, it is only in the title: Hilary Duff may be the follow-up to the 5 million-selling Metamorphosis, but the real metamorphosis for Miss Duff takes place here. --Tammy La Gorce

- Blown Away!

I thought that Metamorphosis was good, but it's almost nothing compared to this album. This album has a much darker rock feel to it and the lyrics are deeper, which makes it so much better. I can't believe how much Hilary Duff's music has grown over time. If she keeps this stuff up she is sure to be around for a long time! Keep it up Duff!

*Fav. track is Dangerous to Know and Mr. James Dean - they rock

- A Much Better effort.

Hilary Duff's sophmore album does have its ups and downs however this album shows growth in many ways.

Overall the song choice is better than her first. You will never convince me that this is a more "rock" album as it is simply a fun pop cd. She has decided to make music that it seems she enjoys rather than what the average viewer of her tv show might enjoy, while not abandoning that audience.

There are far less computer effects and alterations on this album than on the first. Hilary is not a great singer. On her first album this was hidden under layers of touch ups. On this album, you can tell she worked on her vocals and the result is an album where we finally hear her sing without many aids. There are a few bum notes even on the album, but that is a far better way to go than the way of her former album.

As I said the song selection is superior. The true standout track for me and it seems many other reviwers is "The Getaway". This song is the best so far in her short career. Its is catchy and somewhat raw. Very enjoyable. I also enjoy "Weird" for its over the top chorus and overall likablity. The dramatics of "Who's That Girl" are very good as well. Maybe having an acteress sing is a good thing. She can make you feel. Other highlights include "Rock This World" and the much hyped "Haters."

I would say fans of Hilary are constantly growing. And she seems to be growing with them. I dont see any reason that she can not transition from tween sensation to a true pop star for all ages.

- Wow...

Alright, I bought Hilary Duff's new cd because as of late I've been on this music loving streak and everything is a potential buy. Still loving pop music at heart, and having liked some of her earlier singles (although I didn't buy Metamorphosis), I thought I'd give it a try. I'm totally blown away right now. It's definitely more rock than anything else, and the songs are just amazing. I really can't say anything bad about the songs. I've been listening to the cd in its entirety, not just picking out songs. If Hilary Duff continues to put out this kind of quality music, she'll be around for a long time.

- Better Then Metamorphosis?

Metamorphosis was an excellent debut, even if you don't prefer Hilary Duff, you must admit that the crossover from her alter-ego Lizzie McGuire into music (Metamorphosis) had excellent production on it. A great song writing team, catchy beats, and acoustic guitars made Metamorphosis a breezy bubblegum album.

Now about her sophomore effort, Hilary Duff. Hilary got much more personal on this album, contributing lyrics and such. Theirs are much "harder" rock sound on this album. Another great thing about this album is that it seems like every song on it can be a single, the songs are really that good. Whats not good about it? The production. Unlike Metamorphosis, which was great production-wise, this album seems more like it was thrown together without out a care about how Hilarys voice sounds.

Hide Away is a perfect example of this album. This song has better lyrics, and is just an overall better song, then the songs on Metamorphosis, like almost all of the songs on here are. But, this song proves that Hilary should never attempt to reach lower register. She struggles so bad, she can't even say the s on the "secrets." But, when her voice is matched with the right kind of song that fits her voice, like Getaway, its really good.

Theirs something about Hilary, its hard not to like her, shes so... Hilaryish, and this CD is perfect for teenagers, because its like a soundtrack to the teenage years. So if you can hang in with Hilary on the trouble spots that her voice meets in a few places, then I highly recommend this album.

- Stepped Up

Hilary Duff has come a long way since "Metamorphisis" Her vocals and music has been ranged much further than it was before. This CD has some pretty sweet songs such as 1, 8, and 15, but those aren't the only cool songs on this CD. This Cd is much better than her first but it is a little different.
