You've had your fill of Ricky Martin and Jennifer Lopez, Lou Bega and Christina Aguilera in 1999 (none of whom, surprisingly, have cut their Christmas sides... yet). Now return to the original Latina Madonna, the Miami queen of what some have described as blando-Latin pop, the next big thing in American popular music. As Anglosized as Estefan and band can be in general, there are some delicious moments of pure music-making here that transcend category and homogenization. Estefan always sings with passion and energy, and her holiday performances here, while not musically dynamic, still prove strong and fiery. Plus you won't find a more swinging or vibrant version of "Let It Snow" (with hints of salsa on the side) unless you go back some 50 years to the big-band era. Are these Floridians having fun here or what? Overall, a romantic middle-of-the-road offering from that mature adult in front of the fireplace all aglow. --Martin Keller

- Let It Snow, Let It Snow, Let It Snow!

I have been listening to Gloria Estefan since the very early 90's and have almost all her studio albums and both Greatest Hits CD's and she is one of my favorite singers of all time! She doesn't get the attention and respect she deserves for being a TRUE TALENT artist but I will always listen to her! From the very first time I got the Christmas Through Your Eyes in the mid 90's, I have been listening to it every year!

One thing I love about Gloria's versions is that she makes these classics so unique and I feel like I'm actually in a Jazz club when I hear them! Let It Snow, Let It Snow, Let It Snow on this CD is my all time favorite version because of the whole big band/Jazz sound to it! Anyone who loves Jazz or Big Band music will just fall in love with Gloria's version! The Overture: Silver Bells is an awesome introduction to the rest of the CD and before Gloria starts singing Silver Bells, you hear an orchestral medley, a short orchestral medley of a few Christmas songs.

Christmas Through Your Eyes is a new song by Gloria and it's another favorite of mine and it's also included on Gloria's Greatest Hits CD. This Christmas not only features Gloria singing, but a Children's choir is singing also, it's very nice! Arbolito De Navidad is sung in Spanish and it's cool to hear bells throughout it. I also love I'll Be Home For Christmas because it also features a choir and bells, it makes me feel like I'm really there at a performance. The Christmas Song (Chestnuts Roasting On An Open Fire) is another song that makes me feel like I'm in a Jazz club with the Jazz sound to it.

With this CD, you have Jazz, Big Band, Choir, Children's Choir, Spanish songs, Orchestrations, even parts with just Gloria singing, it's all amazing!! All 11 tracks here are beautiful and any fan of Gloria's or any of the elements I mentioned above will love this CD! There is not one bad track here, they're all wonderful!

- Gloria Estefan Christmas

In general, this classic album will always be the first for the Christmas season played in my house. I really enjoy this album for its classic and wonderful music. In my opinion, the best track is number four: "Let it Snow! Let in Snow! Let it Snow!" It's early big band sounds make a fantastic edge. The title track "Christmas through Your Eyes" is an original. It was a major hit and was placed on her first Greatest Hits collection. Another song was recorded but not included. Don't Cry! It's available! The song's name is "Love on Layaway" and you can get it on "Now! That's What I Call Christmas!" or "All-Star Christmas." The fantastic ballads "The Christmas Song (Chesnuts Roasting on An Open Fire)," "White Christmas," and "Silent Night" are just HAVE TO HAVE songs! The entire CD is fantastic. And by the way, this CD will always be, in my opinion, the best Christmas CD ever created!

- Warm and Elegant

This elegantly presented Christmas album has the feel of snow falling outside our windows as children play, all bundled up in big coats and mittens. Songs we often hear during this season are made new by Gloria's interpretations and some terrific arrangements from producer Phil Ramone.

Though the arrangements are modern, this somehow manages to have a 1940's feel. You can easily imagine Gloria in front of one of those large microphones from the era, elegantly dressed in red with long white gloves, a small choir behind her. It almost seems like something which could have been broadcast over the airwaves from a ballroom somewhere, as in the days of old radio.

Gloria's rendition of "The Christmas Song" is a simple yet sophisticated arrangement that makes this venerable classic sound new. It is so good, in fact, you can play it back-to-back with Nat King Cole's wonderful version, and enjoy each in an entirely different way. It has a much different mood, and except for the words, seems like an altogether different song.

Another seasonal song, "Silver Bells," is given a new slant as well. On "Let It Snow, Let It Snow, Let It Snow" there are touches of the big band sound of old, as horns chime in and give us a happy feeling. "Have Yorself a Merry Little Christmas" uses a choir behind Gloria for a classic feel to this popular song.

Gloria's happily sung "This Christmas" is absolutely my favorite version of this song. No one has ever sung it better. No one. It really is firesides blazing bright and children caroling in the snow. A choir of children back Gloria up in fun fasion on this one.

Gloria really tells a small story in "I'll Be Home For Christmas," which is what this song is supposed to do. Bing still has the corner on "White Christmas" but Gloria's rendition is very nice indeed. "Silent Night" is respectful and simply presented, yet moving.

The Spanish "Arbolito De Navidad" has some light and breezy guitar work and is very pretty. Gloria's wonderful "Christmas Through Your Eyes" is a truly heartfelt longing to see things as we once did long ago, when we were children, and the world seemed like a simple and magical place.

Concluding the set is "Christmas Auld Lang Syne." It has just a bit of melancholy and really captures the feel of the season as it winds down. This is something really special for the Holidays. It has a certain elegance, yet remains warm and friendly. This is an artistic and beautiful collection of songs you'll find yourself playing constantly during November and December. A must own for everyone.
