- The first big band album you should buy

I don't actually have these CDs; I have the LP version which I got maybe 25 years ago, but it is the same material. And I have listened to the CDs since a buddy of mine, Cary Richards, played them in their entirety the other day on one of his radio shows on KAAM, so I can vouch for their sound quality. If you want a good, well-rounded collection of original Miller recordings and don't want to spend the money to buy the box set containing the complete Bluebird releases, this is the set to get. If you have gotten interested in swing music by way of some of the neo-swing groups and are wondering what big band music was like, this is the best introduction available.

What we have here are just about all of the best reordings Miller did when his was the premier band of the day (plus one done by his military band). Interestingly enough, some of these didn't rank all that high on the charts, and there were others he did which charted higher but are not included here. But these are the ones that are forever associated with Miller and "the Miller Sound". Considering that Miller's civilian band recorded over 250 titles on Bluebird plus several more, albeit inferior, earlier with Decca and Columbia, this is the cream of the cream. From all of those, I would come up with the same collection as here if asked to limit my selection to 30 with one exception: I would delete "Indian Summer" and replace it with "Rhapsody in Blue", only because I believe the latter deserves a place in this line-up and something would have to give. That quibble aside, this should be the foundation of anyone's big band or swing music collection.

- brings back memories

I remember listening to Glenn Miller when I was a little girl and my dad was in Germany during WWII and my mom was stateside raising my brother and sister and me. It brings back a lot of happy as well as sad memories. Great CD!

- Download Conversion

I have the album and I love Big Band music. The album is a good one and I needed to have it in a modern format. When I downloaded the tunes to My Music, the numbering and hence the order in which the songs played was not the same as on the original album. I had to re-order them in a Playlist to make them play in the order the album's producer intended. Had that hassle not been part of what I paid for, this rating would have been higher. You would think Amazon would configure their products to prevent that....
