Any survey of Jones' best 70's material would logically include a good chunk of what's already on Epic's Anniversary collection. Step Right Up is no exception. There are 7, pre Epic, Musicor singles which open this set and they're all quality Jones. Even the Epic material chose a few different from Anniversary, but much like Anniversay, it is the sequencing of the tracks that make this collection just as enjoyable as that classic. For all the hits present and accounted for, decisions about what to include involved more than simply chart success. Enthusiasts will enjoy the benefits of that process and newcomers would do well to start with such a healthy portion of prime Possum.
This CD is vintage Jones. Some of the songs on this Cd were not big hits but they are great songs only because of the way George Jones sings them.
First 0f all, ANYTHING by George Jones has to be top notch... and this is no exception. I personally have these songs all on other collections, but if you don't, and you enjoy the great George Jones, you NEED this!
I just wish they had included more Musicor singles, but maybe next they'll do a "1960-69" in which would be the absolute BEST Jones material of all times... his masterpieces for Murcury, United Artists and Musicor.
All I can say is buy this, and enjoy the best voice ever in Country Music singing the best music of the 1970's.
No 70's anthology of George Jones is complete without one of the best country songs ever written and performed, period.
