- Nancy Soars!

The least compelling cuts on this CD are the two duets. It is difficult for another singer to match the caliber of Nancy Wilson's vocal artistry with her unique phrasing and penetrating conviction. Her interpretation of "I Was Telling Him About You" and "A Song For You" are classic Nancy at her best. Her passionate, compelling and relentless delivery of "Deeper" is erotic and penetrating as is the more gospel tinged "Puttin' My Trust". She shifts gears to tease and please on "You Know". On the wistful "I Never Held Your Heart" Nancy tenderly aches with regret. No one can tell a story through song the way Nancy Wilson does. This album showcases the many moods and range of material that only the prowess and vision of Ms Wilson could deliver with such polish and appeal. Nancy Wilson is one "class act". The musicians and arrangements create a superb context for Nancy to soar.

- A Satisfying and Slick Album

The only first rate songs on this album are A Song For You and I Was Telling Him About You. The other songs were new and are not likely to be recorded again, however, each track is very polished and complete because of the arrangements, fine musicianship and Nancy's voice which is in especially good shape here. Nancy's vocal on Puttin' My Trust is one of her most soulful, edgy, penetrating, and rhythmic. There is something appealing about the generic, computer generated quality of the songwriting though as I think back about this album. I am charmed by music that sets out to be inoffensive, generalized, pleasant and tasteful and yet is performed with such alarming precision

- More like 4 1/2 than actually FIVE stars!

Featuring a stunning cover photo of the then-forty-something Wilson, "Forbidden Lover" is a relaxing entry in the soft jazz/R & B category. Recorded in 1987, the album has the singer being supported by Carl Anderson (on two duets), Jim Gilstrap, saxophonist Branford Marsalis, guitarist Paul Jackson, Jr. and legendary percussionist Paulinho Da Costa.

The songs aren't as good as the previous album, "Keep You Satisfied," or its successor, "Nancy Now," but Wilson, as always rises to the occasion, adding her signature vocal style to songs that can others could only wish they could perform.

The best of the lot are "You Know", "Too Good to be True," "I Never Held Your Heart," "What Will It Take," and Wilson's take on the Elton John classic "A Song for You."

- A Must Have in Your Collection

This Nancy Wilson CD is a classic. Any music enthusiast needs to have this one in their collection. It is a great gift; people will listen to this one over and over again. I recommend "I was Telling Him About You" when introducing any beginner to Nancy Wilson for the first time. It has the most engaging story-telling lyrics I've ever heard. This CD is one in which every song is unique, entertaining and in a really enjoyable order. I've bought it for grandparents, friends and even the teens. It's one of the ultimate albums.
