If you expected a return of same old Barry's First of May, you might have been disappointed. This is a fresh new take by Robin and G4. G stands for Guildhall School of Music in UK (prestigious music college which produced many world famous classic singers). After all, what is the point of having the same First of May, which you could have listened on vinyl? If you open your heart and listen to it without any preconceptions, you would appreciate it. 30 odd years after I first enjoyed beautiful harmony of Bee Gees, I am captivated by the beautiful harmony of G4. As you can see on this CD, G4 always perform live and arrange songs into 4 parts harmony by themselves. Dream It's Over is fabulous. When A Child Is Born video makes you smile.
Okay, first off, I have been a Bee Gees fan for years and I say my favorite song in the world is First Of May, no matter who's singing it. Secondly, I understand it's a matter of opinion, but Robin Gibb was always my favorite. I saw some of the reviews here, and all I have to say is how DARE you speak of this undescribably gifted singer in such a way! To heck w/ G4, Robin Gibb is the main reason to buy this album, Bee Gees fan or not! Definitely worth buying!
I don't know what G4 stands for, but there are some funny guesses. They are not the problem. Robin Gibb singing a Barry Gibb song is so strange; I don't know what to make of it! However, since Robin's passing, the song just seems that more bittersweet. The best thing about this single is the cover of "Don't Dream Its Over", which sounds like some serious effort was put into it. That alone is worth the single and you are hearing this from a HUGE Bee Gees fan.
