While I think a couple tracks could have been edited from each disc without any appreciable detriment, this collection is overall brilliant. Both its range and power testify to the songwriting genius of Peter Green and his fellow Mayall alumni.
This is a really cool collection that is offered here. The thing that is really cool is that this collection is not super expensive but definitely offers a cool clip of their career, the early years. The early years is a really impressive chapter in their career. They was a different story at that point regarding their approach and material with Green, Spencer, and Kirwan. They were the great 3 headed hydra with those boys, a monster collection of talent.
The guitar playing amongst those 3 guitarists is incredible. One gets the the feeling that an early mac show would offer something for everyone, the all around brilliance of Peter Green, the smoothly styled, semi-trippy offerings from Kirwan, and the feisty Spencer bring his ability to effectively imitate a coiterie of early rock. This coupled with the excellent mac rythm section cleans up.
This collection is cool, it gives you alot for your dollar. Sanctuary does a rteally good job in collections in this range offering you different music and takes that always do the band justice. They definitely have some capable people picking out the music in these collections. Bravo for them.
The standout piece emblematic of Green's mindstate at the time is THE GREEN MANALISHI. A brilliant, tragic piece of work. I reaaly enjoy Long Grey Mare, it is nice work, a really cool song in the metaphorical blues tradition. I have to Laugh is really cool and Do You Give A Damn For Me? The really unexpected burner may very well be Spencer's number, Somebodys gonna get their head kicked in tonight.
All in all and pardon the length of my review but early Mac strikes a pang in my head and heart. This is straight awesome, the money is right, the collection is great. The one bad thing about it is that the liner notes aren't super extensive but the Sanctuary label is truly about the music. It is a great staring off point if you want to get in the earlier mac or it is a great rounding out point if you don't have it. I believe they call something great when it satisfies that broad an audience
One time for the early MAC, nice and loud you know they earned it.
The REAL Fleetwood Mac, not the pop crap with Buckingham and Nicks. The BEST of the british blues players, sorry eric, Jimmy ey al.
this is the average fleetwood mac..this is the early years when peter green played the blues.great sounds.tank you pandora radio for the introduction
In fantastic condition. Could have been wrapped and sold as new. Plays great. I don't remember the price now, but I remember thinking this was a really good deal -- especially when it arrived.
