In the mid 80's the Everly Bros. might have been thought just as another nostaglia act playing county fairs and trying to get by. BUT! Everly Bros. 50's and 60's records influenced every one from Bob Dylan to Beatles to each two part harmony after. They were beloved, but somewhat forgotten until Paul McCartney wrote a minor '84 hit for them, "Wings of a Nightengale". That led to this underappreciated classic, "Born Yesterday". Produced by Jeff Lynne of ELO, the songs include covers of contempory writers and bands such as Dire Straits, choice songs by the likes of Bob Dylan and new ones written by themselves. Song selections fit Don and Phil like a iron fist in a velvet glove. The harmonies of Everly Bros. now have an older, wistful, longing and it sounds achingly bittersweet. Early 45s /LPs/ have that joy of the new and there are plenty of greatest hits compliations of EB, but this is their shinging glory..
and hardly any has heard it. As they sang.. "So Sad.."
I love this album and am very frustrated that I can't seem to find it anywhere! At least you have it listed, but don't have it available. I've worn out two copies and would love to find it new or used, or find most of the songs on another album.
I bought this as an LP in about 1985 and again as a cassette in 1988 which both seemed to wander off over the years. There were two releases of this music - the original in the US and this version from Germany. Had I known how difficult it was going to be to replace this I may have been more careful with the originals. One day the song Don't Say Goodnight starting floating through my memory and it took a year of diligent searching to find an affordable copy of the CD. It turns out that when reacquainted with the music that other tracks suddenly became favorites. In my opinion, this is the best album The Everly Brothers released and they had many great ones. I hope you too are able to find and enjoy this music once again - the results are worth the journey.
I love it! I had the album years ago but it got broken. I've looked for this everywhere, and found it on Amazon. Thanks!
