- Nice Compilation From The King Of Rock And Roll!

Included in this album are twenty eight essential tracks from rock legend Elvis Presley. They range from his early recordings he made in the 50's up to his last recordings from the 70's.

My favorite decade of his is by far the 50's! With songs like "Jailhouse Rock", "Blue Suede Shoes", "Hound Dog", and "King Creole", is that he became a rock legend. Also these early recordings featured the great Scotty Moore on guitar, whose skills became quite influential.

But not all of his early songs were straightforward rock and roll as evidenced by the excellent emotional ballad "Love Me Tender". Another personal favorites include "Teddy Bear" and "All Shook Up".

Later in his career he began to incorporate a lot of different syltes into his music. The very catchy "The Girl Of My Best Friend" is the frist song on this album drawn from his 60's output. Then there are the very popular ballads like "Are You Lonesome Tonight?", and "Can't Help Falling In Love". Another stand out is the gentle piano driven ballad "Crying In The Chapel", while I really liked the fast paced pop number "(Marie's The Name) His Latest Flame".

The last six songs are taken from his last deacde and still find the king in fine form. The songs "The Wonder Of You", "I Just Can't Help Belivin'", and "An American Trilogy" were recorded live and feature a big band sound that I really enjoyed. Another notable song is the up tempo rocker "Burning Love", and please don't overlook the marvelous "Always On My Mind" which has been covered by a lot of newer artists.

But all songs in this compilation are highlights really!

In conclusion, if you are a fan of rock, then you must have at least one album from the king! However this particular release appears to be out of print but any compilation will do.

In my opinion, when it comes to Elvis Presley, the best way to go is to get the box sets "The King Of Rock And Roll: The Complete 50's Masters" and "From Nashville To Memphis: The Essential 60's Masters"!! This is what I'm planning to get too sometime in the future!

I'd say that the third box set from the final decade "Walk A Mile In My Shoes: The Essential 70's Masters" it's optional, but make sure you get at least something!

Thanks for taking the time to read!
